There you have it, the 2016 MLB Regular Season Awards.

Really just a crazy year for the Miami Marlins. Jose Fernandez stole the NL MVP Award away from Giancarlo Stanton which really surprised a number of people. Still, Stanton said it was all good and he was thrilled for Fernandez. To see Chen, Yelich, and Ozuna also pick-up some praise was very cool. In terms of things that jump out to me otherwise... Kuechel went 20-4 with 200+ strikeouts. Adam Jones hit 50 homers which is mind-bogginling, what you doing up there in Baltimore, Orioles? First Chris Davis and now Jones with un-precedented power. A lot of names you'd expect to find in Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, Yoenis Cespedes, etc... overall, a really damn impressive year.

National League Review: A number of surprises to say the least... but first, you may be wondering, why did the Mets and Cardinals have 1 extra game on their record? Well... that's because they finished the year with an identical record of 90-72. Due to this, they would play a 163rd game against each other to see who would get that final wild-card spot and have to go on the road to play the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals lost their final game of the year 3-5 to the Pirates after the Pirates scored 2 runs on them in the top of the 9th, heart-breaking. Things went from bad to worse as they were stunningly defeated at home vs the New York Mets, 2-5. Yoenis Cespedes hit 2 monster homers that drove in 4 runs, that clutch Cuban bastard. Here's a hero in New York, and he deserves it, and because of his heroics, New York will play 1 more game to see if they can get to the National League Divisional Series.

As for the rest of the National League, the situation is interesting. The Marlins were carried by Jose Fernandez (NL MVP & CY Young Award Winner) and Giancarlo Stanton (Hank Aaron Award Winner) The Nationals were under-whelming and finished the year so badly they finished under .500, the Phillies also had a nice little run at the start of the year before dropping off. The Braves, Brewers, and Rockies are awful baseball clubs. The Giants won 6 straight to end the year as the Dodgers lost 3 straight to steal the NL West crown from them. Finally, the poor NL Central... 3 games back of being with the Cubs, the Cardinals are now out of the playoffs.

American League Review: The biggest and most interesting thing from the American League this year has to be the AL Central. The Tigers, Royals, Indians, and Twins were all fighting in a slug-fest all year and Detroit came out on top. The Tigers finished the year on a 5-game winning streak to get the job done. The Royals did their best to rally back after losing 2 of 3 to Detroit on September 23rd-25th by winning 5 of their last 6 games but it didn't matter. The Indians making that trade mid-season in Ruby De La Rosa did not end up paying off since they fell short. The sad White Sox probably felt lonely considering they were 20 games back of 1st, while everyone else was a maximum of 3 games back. At least they have the Cubs to enjoy in the postseason trying to snap the curse.

In terms of the other divisions, the AL East was insane. Blue Jays / Yankees / Red Sox filthy rich battle. The Red Sox tried to steal 2nd place after sweeping the Yankees on the road, but losing their last 2 games of the year vs the Blue Jays bit them in the butt. The Yankees ended the year on an atrocious 7-game losing streak and we'll see if they can recover in the playoffs. The poor Rays had an okay year, but it didn't matter. Finally the AL West saw the team with the best record in the league of 2016! The Houston Astros finished the year on an 8-game winning streak but still fell just short of 100 wins. The poor Mariners finished with more wins than any team in the AL Central, yet miss the playoffs. Maybe they can go console themselves with the Cardinals.

Those are the 2016 MLB Regular Season Stats for the Miami Marlins!

So some things that jump out to me right away. Mike Dunn was truly horrendous for the Marlins out of the bullpen this year. It can be seen in his ERA or his WHIP. Other than him and Phelps though, most of the pitching staff was really solid. Conley finished with an ERA just over 4.00 and Cosart really pulled himself together and finished with a damn solid ERA. In terms of the two mid-season acquisitions, it definitely appears that Tony Sipp as a left-handed reliever out-played Keone Kela. Still, the Marlins hope both of them can make contributions in the years moving forward to keep on helping out the the club. Oh, and of course, Jose Fernandez is insane.

In terms of the hitting, it was an interesting year. Other than Stanton, no one dominated and was other-worldly. Avery Romero as a replacement for Derek Dietrich in limited plate appearances did really damn solid. Yelich also had a damn good year hitting 20+ homers and having a batting average above .280, Dee regressed after his NL Battling Title year in 2015. Justin Bour performed well, Marcell Ozuna and Martin Prado really didn't. This'll make things a bit more interesting moving forward as each of those positions are spots the Marlins could potentially upgrade in the offseason either via Free Agency or through a block-buster trade.

Now that we've seen the Miami Marlins player statistics, let's look at the rest of MLB in 2016!

One of the basic things to look at is... well... holy crap Jose Fernandez. Leading all of Major League Baseball in wins, strikeouts, and ERA is just pure and utter dominance. He also lead the league in innings pitched. Speaking of which, since one of the biggest "features" of baseball is the prominence of statistics, I decided to go the extra mile and include a bunch of other interesting stats in the spoiler button below. One of the reasons it's more difficult to do these for MLB as opposed to my NBA franchise is because of the sheer number of statistics. Stuff I didn't include there like Hits, Slugging %, OPS, Saves, WHIP, WAR, etc.. are all interesting statistics in themselves but I don't want half the page to just be one post. For those curious to see if any of your players were good enough to qualify, check 'em out below! Now though it is time to go ahead and check out some important team statistics!

Those are the Team Statistics of the 2016 MLB Regular Season.

I was able to get the majority of the important statistics in these two tables. My main thoughts are... holy crap the Toronto Blue Jays are terrifying on the front of power. Holy cow, how were the Washington Nationals not better? The Mets struck out a lot of batters but struggled ERA-wise for much of the year before destroying everybody in September. The Giants and Dodgers are two monsters nobody should try to fight, and even while almost being a 100-win team... the Houston Astros are insanely scary. I think that covers about everything. If you want to see why the Marlins were successful this year, it can be summed up as simply good pitching and not letting the big bomb kill us essentially. Oh, and also, the hell got into the AL East? Blue Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox are all elite and scary.

Re: New Hope, New Fish ~ A Miami Marlins Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)

2016 MLB Playoffs Preview, Divisional League Series

I can't believe it, but it has finally around. The 2016 MLB Postseason. In Spring Training, this seemed like a fairy-tale or a far-off dream that would have to be built towards in the future. Now, it's a reality. Some teams have already been eliminated and I'll take a look at those matchups as well as taking a look at the new series that have been formed... without further ado, let's preview the 2016 MLB Divisional League Series.

American League

Wildcard Matchup: New York Yankees (0) vs Boston Red Sox (1)
Recap: Oof... that has really got to sting for New Yorkers. Boston vs New York in itself is already remarkably historic and tense, but this just adds fuel to the fire when it's a 1-off postseason game just to get the right to play in a 5-game Divisional Series. It was David Price vs Masahiro Tanaka, and Price came out on top. Tanaka went 5 innings but allowed 1 earned run and 3 other runs in his relatively small outing. All 3 runs were driven in for the Red Sox by none other than Dustin Pedroia. He drove in 2 in the 3rd inning, and then 1 in the 5th inning to take a 3-0 lead. On the other hand for the Yankees, they could barely break-through David Price. The only run was scored in the 7th inning thanks to a Aaron Hicks home run. Jacoby Ellsbury went 0-3 at the plate, as well as Greg Bird going 0-4. Hicks really was the only one who had a good night going 2 for 4 with a homer and double, overall Price pitched the complete game and sent Yankees fans who were the home team go crying.

Divisional Matchup: Toronto Blue Jays vs Detroit Tigers
Preview: This is going to be one hell of a matchup... the Tigers managed to survive the insanely competitive AL Central with just about every team around .500, while the Blue Jays out-edged the Yankees and Red Sox at the end of the year to survive and win 95 games. Who'll win? I have to give the edge to the Blue Jays. Home-field advantage is nice, but it also should be noted that their power is just absurd. #1 in baseball, and while I understand pitching is remarkably important, Marco Estrada and Marcus Stroman aren't exactly scrubs for Toronto. If the Blue Jays really want to go deep this postseason and avenge their loss to the Kansas City Royals last year, they need their big bats in Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, and Jose Bautista all to step up. For the Tigers, it's all about Miggy baby. My final prediction is that the Blue Jays are gonna win this series 3-1 with the Tigers pitching sucking.

Divisional Matchup: Houston Astros vs Boston Red Sox
Preview: This is probably one of the more fascinating matchups in the Divisional Round Series. It's more of a smaller market in the Astros who have a ton of young and upcoming players vs the Red Sox who are the enormous market and are feeling high after beating the Yankees. Whether it be Betts, Pedroia, Bogaerts, or Hanley, there's quite a bit of star power in Boston as well. But, if I had to make a decision, I would give the edge to Houston. Having home field advantage will end up being massively beneficial, and the pitching aces in Dallas Keuchel, Lance McCullers, and Doug Fister will go a long way to carrying Houston. My final prediction is that the Astros are gonna win in narrow fashion, 3-2 because of the young stars taking advantage of their opportunity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

National League

Wildcard Matchup: Los Angeles Dodgers (0) vs New York Mets (1)
Recap: Really Los Angeles?..... dammit. I guess Don Mattingly wasn't the only one responsible for the Dodgers pathetic performances in the playoffs after-all. The Dodgers, playing at home, lost in heart-breaking fashion quite simply. It was a classic Clayton Kershaw vs Matt Harvey duel. Each had remarkable regular seasons, and now they were pitching with their teams lives on the line. Through a full 8 innings, each had performed magnificently. Kershaw had allowed jut 2 hits while Harvey had allowed just 6 hits. After allowing David Wright to get on base by walking him, Kershaw got Conforto to fly-out and Cespedes to strike out. 8.2 innings through...and then... playoff Kershaw happened. Lucas Duda CRUSHED a ball into left field as the entire Dodgers crowd stood in stunned silence. How could this happen? Chris Hatcher came in and got the final out. Jeurys Familia would finish the game off for the Mets as they would be victorious 2-0. They advance to the NLDS, and the Dodgers suffer another year of failure, and Clayton Kershaw is getting crushed and hammered because of it.

Divisional Matchup: Miami Marlins vs Chicago Cubs
Preview: Phew... who woulda thought in 2003 the next time you would see this matchup would be in 2016? Crazy how time flies by, but hopefully for Chicago's sake, Steve Bartman and Alex Gonzalez aren't in the building. This is actually one of the few series where the road team is favored. The Marlins won 95 games, but the Cubs won 93 games. The devastating pitching duo of Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester will present massive issues for the Marlins. After that, the Cubs pitching rotation falls off. Monster bats such as Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzzo, and Kris Bryant will all pose a massive challenge. If the Marlins want to win, they need Fernandez/Chen to kill it as well as their stars in Dee, Yelich, and Stanton to step up. Still, I project an upset. The Marlins had an amazing year, but it will be cut short due to the Chicago Cubs surviving this series in a 3-2 victorious style, Stanton will still be amazing I believe.

Divisional Matchup: San Francisco Giants vs New York Mets
Preview: Talk about one hell of a matchup. You have the team that wins every even year (2010, 2012, and 2014) against the team that just made and lost the World Series in 2015. The Mets just pulled off clutch heroics in Los Angeles that made Giants fans gleam at their mis-fortune. Will they now pay the price for that and have their own hearts broken vs the fearsome pitching rotation that consist of Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard? If so, they have a killer duo of their own in Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto. The star bats in Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, and Hunter Pence all need to step up to survive this series. The Mets will put up a valiant effort, and maybe Yoenis Cespedes can bail them out and steal a game, but I still project the 97-win San Francisco Giants taking this series in 4 games, 3-1. Bumgarner will revert back into the 2014-elite version of himself.

Those are my 2016 MLB Playoff National League Divisional Series predictions. Let's freaking get on with it.

2016 Miami Marlins: This Is Our Shot, Let's Take It

The Miami Marlins are just 1 of 8 teams currently left standing in the 2016 Major League Baseball Season.

At the beginning of the year, that would have seemed improbable, damn near impossible. With the sudden shift in upper management, how could they simply bounce back as if nothing had happened? Well, while the season didn't start hot, the Marlins picked up steam as the year went on. Now, here's your shot. This is one of the few times where you'll get to be seen nationally by a broad audience. Even with Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Fernandez' greatness, there's a very plausible chance that normal casual fans in other markets have never seen them play, simply because the Marlins aren't a big-market organization nationally. But now facing the Chicago Cubs in the National League Divisional Series, they will be front and center of all everyones eyeballs.

So what needs to take place? Giancarlo Stanton needs to perform like Giancarlo Stanton did in 2016. Jose Fernandez has to perform like an Ace. The Marlins need to steal at least 1 game off of the nasty Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester duo. One of the more intriguing dynamics is that J.T. Realmuto may be able to come back within the next few games recovering from his fractured shin injury. Tomas Telis may want to step up his game if he plans on sticking around. Avoiding injuries in general would also be ideal for the Fish.

This is also the 1st playoff game that the Marlins Park will hold since being opened back in 2012. The Cubs will indeed pose a difficult task though. They made it to the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets last year but fell short in a mere 4-game sweep... losing 2-4, 1-4, 2-5, 3-8 in each game respectively. Now they hope to have taken that playoff experience that many of them gathered and bring it to this series. Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzo, and Kris Bryant are just a few of the monster bats their lineup holds that the Marlins will have to evade around. Addison Russell, Kyle Schwarber, and Ben Zobrist aren't exactly scrubs either. We already know all about their pitching, and what happened in the 2003 National League Championship Series.

It's Miami vs Chicago. We know how those Heat vs Bulls matchups went with the Big 3 Heat. Let's goo!
