Re: Lighting Up The Trop (The Show 17, PS4)

The 2017 first year player draft has passed us up and has been completed. I ended up drafting NOT ONE player that I scouted lol. Not purposely, I just over looked them and went a different direction. I was still looking for a third baseman for the future, an arm or two and a middle infielder.

I'd say one of the scouted players i regret not drafting after looking at their true overalls and potential. The others I really didn't miss out.

Re: Lighting Up The Trop (The Show 17, PS4)

Manager Kevin Cash Makes Changes

A change or two was only a matter of time before they happened. Manager Kevin Cash mad a couple of them.

First, he has moved the struggling bat of Kevin Kiermaier down in the lineup. Kiermaier has been hovering just under the Mendoza Line all year so far. Kiermair just can't seem to get it going and now he will be batting sixth behind Steven Souza. Cash hopes the change helps and it doesn't demoralize his on the field performance.

Cash's second move was a much more needed one. Blake Snell goes to the bullpen and Nathan Eovaldi is inserted into the rotation. Snell has been just awful and Kevin Cash made it very clear that he has a short leash in the pen.

The Rays have options in the minor league but for now Eovaldi will have to take this opportunity and run with it.

Your choice at #2 looks like a home run. Nicely done. I like your 10 game update format as well.

Re: Lighting Up The Trop (The Show 17, PS4)

I decided to play right through the end of June……I was having too much fun playing these games. I’ll go to posting every 10 after this…

And boy did it look like the wheels were coming off the bus right in front of our face. We started off June by winning 2 of 3 from the Mariners, lost a series against the White Sox, split four with the A’s and then it went down the toilet.

In the opener against the A’s we got as many hits as errors…TWO. Sean Manaea pitched great and just shut us down. Eovaldi got the loss in this one, only his second of the season.

We lost nine in a row. Which included getting shutout twice and scoring only one run in four of those games.

Once again it feels like we are depending way too much on the homerun ball. And finding ways to manufacture runs has been difficult. We did follow this tough stretch by taking two out of three the Baltimore Orioles but they are not better off than we are at the moment.

In one of the games against the Cincinnati Reds, Matt Andriese couldn’t have pitched a better game. He left with a 1-0 lead and with Colome in to get the save, Joey Votto grounds out to Longoria at the third, he bobbles the ball with the runner at third running on contact, throws to first, would have been in time but threw it wide….game tied. A sac fly later gave the Reds the lead and Alex Colome suffered his first loss of the season. Heartbreaker to say the least.

A few games where we got good pitching early on and then when the sixth and seventh innings hit, our starters just crumbled.

Chris Archer put together a few bounce back pitching performances. Then faced the Detroit Tigers and looked like he did in the first month of the season where he gave up 10 hits and 6 earned runs and homeruns to Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera and JD Martinez. We lost that game 11-1. In the finale, the Tigers walked off on us on Victor Martinez’s single that scored Justin Upton from second.

Corey Dickerson has been by far our best hitter. His 21 homeruns are good for 2nd in the American League behind the Twins Brian Dozier.

Team Rankings

Batting AVG - .247 (22nd)
Runs – 314 (20th)
HR – 114 (2nd)
Stolen Bases – 25 (26th)
GIDP – 52 (24th)
ERA – 4.23 (23rd)
Blown Saves – 11 (20th)
HR Allowed – 90 (14th)

These team rankings pretty much say it all. Homerun hitting team. Bottom feed in regards to double plays grounded into and batting average. And our pitching is not much better.

Injuries

1B Logan Morrison suffered a season ending injury at first base while diving for a ball against the Cincinnati Reds. A serious ankle injury was determined by team doctors to be a dislocated ankle and will be out at least 6 months.

Logan Morrison was batting .277 with 10 homeruns and 23 runs batted in. He was playing good enough defense. But perhaps the timing of the injury came at a good time. As the Rays got Colby Rasmus back from the DL, manager Kevin Cash will insert Rasmus into first base.

Prospect Watch

Willy Adames, SS (AAA) - .242 AVG // 7 HR // 40 RBI // 5 SB // 35 BB // 57 K

Jake Bauers, RF (AAA) - .291 AVG // 6 HR // 37 RBI // 34 BB // 25 K
-Jake had a 9- game hit streak during the month of June

Jose De Leon, SP (AAA) – 4-1 // 91.2 IP // 56 BB // 109 K // 3.24 ERA // 1.47 WHIP
-De Leon has 8 No Decisions in 13 starts

Brent Honeywell, SP (AA) – 6-3 // 99.1 IP // 19 BB // 80 K // 3.08 ERA // 1.13 WHIP

De Leon looks like he's ready for a call up with those strike out to innings pitched and walk numbers. Whip is a little high but that will go down if the other numbers hold.

Re: Lighting Up The Trop (The Show 17, PS4)

At The All-Star Break

Well, we've reached the all-star break. I won't be going in too deep for the all-star game itself. The game did go into extras and the AL defeated the NL 12-6. The starters were Clayton Kershaw (LAD) vs Sonny Gray (OAK).

Corey Dickerson represented us well in the All Star Game. In the top of the ninth, Dickerson still in the game, came through with an RBI double off Dodgers closer Jansen to cut the NL’s lead to one. Two batters later Dickerson scored to tie the game on Jose Ramirez’s sac fly. Dickerson finished the game going 2-5.

A big 6-run 12th inning for the American League earned them the victory.

I will be going around the league and just pointing out some stats, news and notes on teams and players.

American League
*The Cleveland Indians have beat the Detroit Tigers 5 out of the last 6 games they’ve met in the past 10 days to overtake the Central Division lead

*Francisco Lindor leads the majors w/ 7 triples

*Edwin Encarnacion has 71 RBIs….and the Indians are 2nd in shutouts and 3rd in complete games

*The Los Angeles Angels, after winning 7 straight, have gone 3-9

*The Seattle Mariners have won 7 out of their last 9.

*Angels pitcher Garrett Richards has been struggling lately, he has a 7-12 record w/ a 4.81 ERA

*Mike Trout leads MLB w/ 8 Intentional Walks

*The Houston Astros have 9 players with double digit homeruns

*White Sox starters Carlos Rodon & James Shields both struggling

*CWS prospect Michael Kopech struggling in AAA with a 2-5 record and a 5.13 ERA

*Toronto Blue Jays have blown 15 saves

*The Red Sox have blown 14 saves

National League
*Cubs Anthony Rizzo just killing left-handed pitching with a .391 BA…..and batting .260 away from Wrigley Field

*Nationals Bryce Harper batting .355 with runners in scoring position

*Mets Jay Bruce leads the team with a .301 BA

*Mets who lead the NL East, have no player in the top ten in the following categories: Hits, Doubles, Triples, Runs Scored, Stolen Bases, ERA, Strikeouts, Innings Pitched and WHIP……amazing!!!

*Mets OF Michael Conforto having himself a season: .285 AVG / 21 HR / 57 RBI / 1.016 OPS

*Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow has made 18 starts this season and has a 1-10 record with a 5.59 ERA

*The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the majors in the following: Runs (434), ERA (2.96), Complete Games (11), Shutouts (15), HR Allowed (74) and Strikeouts (913)

*How good and scary are the Dodgers? Calyton Kershaw is first in team wins….or second. Kershaw is third with 9 wins. Kenta Maeda is first with 12 and Rich Hill follows in second with 10.

*Cubs Kris Bryant had a 3 homerun game right before the all-star break, including 8 RBIs and 4 Runs.

Trades

6/4 – Yankees acquired SP Hyun-Jin Ryu from the Dodgers for CF Blake Rutherford

6/26 – Indians acquired 2B Eric Sogard from the Brewers for LF Luigi Rodriguez

7/3 – Angels acquired C Robinson Chirinos from the Rangers for 3B Nolan Fontana, CF Jahmai Jones and SS Alberto Truinfel

7/9 – Tigers acquire RP Tanner Scheppers from the Rangers for SP Myles Jaye
