Scooting into a New Era: Portland Trail Blazers (2K23)

Portland Trail Blazers MyLeague

Rosters: 2023-2024 Post Draft Best Roster by Sinceretheceo911 on PS4 Share

Background Info
This MyLeague will begin in the 2023-2024 season. Rookies are on their correct rosters and most FA's have been assigned to their correct teams. I made a big 3-team-trade to shop Damian Lillard to the Heat, and will look forward to the future with my young nucleus/core of Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.

So, how will I approach gameplay, updates, etc? My schedule is busy so I will virtually never play an entire 4-quarter game. To get my "gameplay" fix, I will SuperSim the first 3 quarters of a game. If the game is within 10 points (winning or losing) going into the 4th quarter, I will jump in and play out the remainder of the game. I typically prefer to provide some level of game update for most/all 82 games. As an "old-schooler" who's been on these forums for 10+ years creating dynasty threads, I got my start because I loved mindlessly scrolling through the dynasty threads that provided frequent game updates so I could get a better feel/sense for the entire season and how it played out. Sometimes, I will provide fully boxscore updates for 1-2 games at a time, and others (most common) I will provide partial boxscore updates for 3+ games at a time. I do not really have the time to write "newspaper style" reports.

Dame Time Expires: Blazers Ship Damian Lillard to Miami Heat in 3-Team Deal

Portland, OR (AP) -- Dame time is no more. Nearly one month after requesting a trade from the team that drafted him, the Portland Trail Blazers finally landed on a deal that they felt comfortable with and shipped Lillard to his preferred destination: Miami.

In the three team deal, the Miami Heat will receive Damian Lillard and Nusuf Jurkic from the Blazers, and Patty Mills from the Nets. The Heat shipped Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, and Victor Oladipo to the Nets. Potland took on Ben Simmons' contract from the Nets as well as Duncan Robinson's contract from the Heat. The Blazers will also receive three future 1st round picks.

This brings a close to a stellar 11 season era in which many pundits and fans felt like Lillard established himself as the greatest Blazer as all-time. While Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler squirm in their chairs at that proposal, it cannot be denied that Lillard's impact on the franchise will forever be felt and remembered. In his 11 seasons with Portland, Lillard averaged 25.2 PPG, 6.7 APG, 4.2 RPG, and 1.0 SPG. He was named an All-Star 7-times. In addition, he was named All-NBA 1st Team 1x, All-NBA 2nd Team 4x, and All-NBA 3rd Team 2x. In 2018-2019, Lillard also led the Blazers to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

Blazers Joe Cronin, who was reluctant to ship Lillard to any team without the right deal, finally caved after the Nets and three future first round picks were involved. The Blazers were also able to salary dump Jusuf Nurkic in the trade which sweetened the pot for Cronin.

Quote:
"I was bullish about a Damian trade at first because he's the greatest Blazer ever, just put up 32 points-per-game last year, and we felt as a front-office that he had a lot of value on the trade market. We wanted to honor his desire to be traded, but at the same time we wanted to get a fair return. Once the third team got involved, and allowed us to take on some future firsts as well as dump another big salary, we were much more enticed. We feel that we have a really bright future to build aroudn with Scoot, Anfernee, and Shaedon. I feel like we have the best young backcourt core in the league. And now we have additional first round picks to further build on that core. This deal was a homerun for us."

New Look Blazers Ready for New Era

Sep. 25, 2024

Portland, OR -- The Blazers focus is squarely on the future. After a somewhat tumultuous off-season, the sentiment throughout the organization is "time to move on." After Lillard's initial request for a trade in June, the Blazers were patient in their approach. Lillard's preferred destination, the Miami Heat, did not have an offer on the table that appealed to GM Joe Cronin. After a month of waiting and negotiations, the two sides, with the help of the Brooklyn Nets, finally reached an agreement.

The Blazers will be one of the youngest teams in the league when they roll out a projected starting lineup of Scoot, Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, and Trendon Watford, making the average age of their starting line-up just shy of 23-years-old. Questions swirl around whether or not Ben Simmons will be ready for the season opener. As of now, Blazers GM Joe Cronin is not saying one way or another, however it looks like he will not be ready at the beginning of the season. The acquisition of Simmons was a risky one, taking on a large contract that still has 3-years remaining, but if he is able to overcome some of his demons and step on the floor, he could provide valuable accomplished leadership and experience to a young Blazers squad.
