Loyola Marymount (8-5) vs. SMU (5-4)
Moody Coliseum
Dallas, TX
December 30, 2014

Looking to bounce back to a tough loss against Kennesaw State, the SMU Mustangs hosted the Lions of Loyola Marymount, who were ranked #23 in the mid-major poll. Coach Roberts knew that senior shooting guard Jamon Famutimi was LMU's big threat and that stopping him wasn't possible. The game plan was to allow him to get his, but buckle down on everyone else. Famutimi did everything he could to will his team to a win, but feel just short. He nailed a three with just seconds left to pull within one point, but SMU ran off the clock and iced the win.

Varney Bright continues to play great basketball with another double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Even more impressive was the fact that he had zero fouls. His production is remarkably better when he's on the floor and not sitting with two early fouls. Ruben Roberson poured in eight first half points to give SMU a halftime lead, one they would not relinquish.

VMI (0-11) vs. SMU (6-4)
Moody Coliseum
Dallas, TX
January 4, 2015

The Mustangs start the new year with a trouncing over the winless Keydets. This game wasn't close from the start and it was a great way to get the bench some meaningful minutes heading into the conference schedule starting next week. Varney Bright led the way with 19 points and 15 rebounds in just 18 minutes of play. Ruben Roberson, with 13 points off the bench, may have won himself the starting small forward job over Micheal Grove. He is shooting the ball much more consistently than Grove and adds a better defender and rebounder to start the game.

SMU (7-4) vs. Southern Miss (4-9)
Reed Green Coliseum
Hattiesburg, MS
Januarty 8, 2014

A road game to open the conference schedule scared some of the SMU faithful. After last year's team was abysmal on the road, there were fears that it would be much of the same. EJ Dukes made sure that wasn't the case.

The guard play of the Golden Eagles could not contain Dukes from the get-go. In the first half, he only had two points, but he did dish out eight assists. He was finding his favorite big man in
Varney Bright as well as his shooters in Engin Henson and Ruben Roberson on the outside. He was drawing help defenders all over and making the right pass.

In the second half, he added five more assists and nine points to finish with a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 13 assists. The more he found his teammates, the more confidence they had in knocking down the shot. It was a virtuoso performance from the junior point guard.

UCF (5-7) vs. SMU (8-4)
Moody Coliseum
Dallas, TX
January 11, 2015

After leading the entire game, the SMU Mustangs blow this conference game at home. The lead ballooned up to 15 points at one time, but bad shots and turnovers reared their ugly head and UCF took advantage. This is a loss that could cost them at the end of the season.
