Blue Collar Basketball: A UB Bulls Dynasty

Game: NCAA Basketball 10 (XBox 360)
Sliders: BigDmo's AA

The University At Buffalo. A proud college with a very diverse group of students, well educated teachers, great programs that mold students for the future, but one thing has been lacking, a winning sports program. Although football has taken strides in recent years, the basketball program has been one that has come up short year after year.

That's something head coach Reggie Witherspoon is trying to turn around. After the 2005 season in which coach Witherspoon lead the Bulls to there first ever MAC conference tourny final, and, although they lost that game, the Bulls were invited to the NIT where they won there opening round game against Drexel. Witherspoon was given a substantial contract extension after that season in which he was named MAC coach of the year.

While the Bulls haven't found that same success since, most die hard fans in the Buffalo/Amherst area believe it's only a matter of time before the Bulls dominate the MAC Conference.

Alumni Arena

The main court in the center of UB's Alumni Arena is the home court for both the UB men's and women's basketball teams. Capacity is 6,100 following renovations during the summer of 2004 that included new chairback seating on both sides of the court, renovated bleacher seats on both ends and a new design and resurfacing of the court itself.

A record crowd of 8,971 was on hand to watch the UB men's basketball team defeat Northern Illinois, 90-73, in a first-round Mid-American Conference Tournament game on March 8, 2004. The UB women's basketball attendance record was set when the Bulls hosted North Carolina on November 17, 2000. A record crowd of 4,017 fans, the largest crowd ever assembled to watch a women's basketball game at any of the Western New York-area Big 4 schools, witnessed the Bulls' 95-89 upset of the 22nd-ranked Tar Heels.

Re: Blue Collar Basketball: A UB Bulls Dynasty

Introducing Myself

My name is Reggie Witherspoon. Head coach of the UB Bulls men's basketball team. Iv'e been the coach since the 200 season, which marks this my 11th year with the team. It is my mission here to instill the best basketball team not only in the MAC, but in the entire nation.

We have a few goals coming into the 09-10 season, 2 out of 5 wouldn't be bad, but of course, we're striving to complete all 5.

1. Get 10 Wins
2. Win Home Opener
3. Win Conference Opener
4. Win Conference Tournament
5. Make NCAA/NIT Tournament

I'm also fully aware that we haven't made a post season tournament since the 2005 season, but I feel this squad we have a legitimate shot at returning there. These kids are a special group, lets have a look at them...

ROSTER

Rodney Pierce

Guard
Senior
6-2 * 200

Buffalo, NY
Hutch Tech

Without a doubt our best player. If we hope to make any type of postseason it will be on this guys shoulders.

Strengths: 3PT, Driving ability
=============================

Sean Smiley
Guard
Senior
6-1 * 170

Erie, PA
McDowell

This guy lives up to his name, he always has a smile plastered on his face. Has a tremendous heart for the game and it always shows on the court.

Strengths: Defense, Mid Range Game
===============================

Calvin Betts
Forward
Senior
6-4 * 230

Rochester, NY
Rush-Henrietta

Led the Bulls in rebounding and blocked shots last year, hopefully brings that D back to the court this year.

Strengths: Rebounding, Blocked shots
==============================

Jawaan Alston
Forward
Junior
6-8 * 225

Uniontown, PA
Albert Gallatin

First year as a starter after only averaging 2.5 PPG last season. Needs to have a big year for the Bulls to be competitive.

Strengths: Rebounding
==============================

Mitchell Watt
Forward
Sophomore
6-10 * 215

Goodyear, AZ
Desert Edge

Played in all 33 games last year as a reserve. Another guy who needs to play big down low this year. After averaging only 2.3 PPG last year, Buffalo hopes for much better production this year.
=========================

Titus Robinson - F
Max Boudreau - F
Byron Mulkey - F
John Boyer - G
Adekembei Laleye - F
Dave Barnett - G
Derek Wolfley - G

Our bench is admittedly not that solid. We're going to need big minutes from our starters this year to produce some solid wins.
