Purple N Gold Legacy - The Los Angeles Lakers Association

Shortly after winning their second straight NBA Championship in June against the Boston Celtics in what could only be described as perhaps the best seven game series in the history of the NBA, the Lakers were excited to get back to work as training camp was upon them. Most thought that defeating the Celtics in a classic NBA Finals for the ages that the Lakers would quietly coast through the off season. It wasn't two weeks after their championship parade that LeBron James announced his decision to leave Cleveland and join Chris Bosh to team up with Dwyane Wade in Miami. Also, almost immediately following that the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves were involved in a three team deal that sent Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman to the Knicks in exchange for Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, a 2012 2nd round draft pick, a 2013 2nd round draft pick and a 2014 1st round draft pick to the Nuggets. The Minnesota Timberwolves received a 2015 2nd round pick from the Nuggets in exchange for Kosta Koufos and sent Corey Brewer to the Knicks in exchange for Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry. Soon after that the Utah Jazz and New Jersey Nets made a blockbuster deal of their own. The Jazz sent point guard Deron Williams to the Nets for Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, a 2011 1st round draft pick and a 2012 1st round draft pick. The landscape of the league didn't stop there. These were the other deals that were made over the course of the off season.

  • Toronto Raptors traded a 2011 1st round draft pick to Chicago for James Johnson.
  • New Orleans Hornets traded Marcus Thornton to Sacramento for Carl Landry.
  • Atlanta Hawks traded Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, Maurice Evans and a 2011 1st round pick to Washington for Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong.
  • New Jersey Nets traded Troy Murphy and a 2012 2nd round pick to Golden State for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric.
  • Charlotte Bobcats traded Gerald Wallace to Portland for Dante Cunningham, Joel Przybilla, Sean Marks, a 2011 1st round pick or 2015 2nd round pick.
  • Cleveland Cavaliers traded Mo Williams and Jamario Moon to Clippers for Baron Davis and a 2011 1st round pick.
  • Cleveland Cavaliers traded a 2013 2nd round pick to Boston for Luke Harangody and Semih Erden
  • Sacramento Kings traded 2017 2nd round pick to Boston for Marquis Daniels.
  • Oklahoma City Thunder traded Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic, a 2012 1st round pick to Boston for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson.
  • Oklahoma City Thunder traded D.J. White and Morris Peterson to Charlotte for Nazr Mohammed.
  • Phoenix Suns traded Goran Dragic and a 2011 1st round draft pick to Houston for Aaron Brooks.
  • Memphis Grizzlies traded Hasheem Thabeet, a 2013 1st round draft pick to Houston for Shane Battier, Ishmael Smith.
Now that training camp is just about to end for everyone, it's time to get set and follow one great ride. The Purple N Gold are on a mission this year to accomplish what only two other franchises have done, win 2 three-peats. Phil Jackson has made it very clear that if the Lakers were to win another title this season that he would strongly consider returning for next year. The Lakers main core group of Bryant, Fisher, Bynum, Gasol, Odom and Artest are all under contract until 2014 with Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum both having team options for next season. The Lakers will carry 15 players on their roster to start the season and will be sending down their two very impressive rookies Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter to the NBDL Baskersfield Jam. Trey Johnson and Luke Walton will begin the season on the injured list.
