If 20 turnovers was too many how does coach carr feel now?
Just days after coach carr mentioned how disappointed he was at a 20 turnover performance against Wagner his team puts up 20 TOs against Navy. As a side note though Danijel Zoric was moved into the starting lineup after playing well these last couple games.

Coach Carr: We went with a new lineup but it didn't seem to help. We need to figure something out with only one game left until the full conference season begins.

Cornhusker big man to much for small time hawks
Poitr Lukasaik faced his toughest opponent yet. Josko Martin from Nebraska looks to be a top 5 pick in the upcoming NBA draft and his performance yesterday did not bring up any questions about that. 26 points, 11 boards, and 2 blocks in a comfortable win is always a nice performance.

Coach Carr: Our big men need to step up and take control in the paint. A big body is useless if you can't throw it around and that is where our post players are right now.

Conference Regular season starts well for hawks
Wheless went head to head with Jesus McGowen of Winston Salem and although McGowen may have ended up slightly ahead in the stat line Wheless finally got the help he needed. Lukasiak had a double double abd Zoric scored 16 and added 6 boards in the win.

Re: flight of the hawks(CH2K8 UMES )

Hawks glide to victory
(I am finally caught up so will do more full reports)

The hawks came into this game 5-11 facing an 8-8 South Carolina state squad. While on paper the game seemed close an unlikely star arose to push UMES to a nearly uncontested victory.

Sure, there were the common themes, 17 points by Wheless, double digit boards by Lukasiak against a smaller front court, a few assists but also some turnovers from Straight, but noone expected what Danijel Zoric would do.

The Hawks were already playing well up 39-24 at the half but Zoric came into the second quarter with spaulding slowed by a sprained ankle and took over the scoring role in the front court in a big way. He scored 34 of his 40 points in the second half while Hollis Howard on the other side struggled to match his size and physicality.

This is a guy who was not starting at the beginning of the year and is generally more of an opportunistic scorer. Well, today he saw plenty of opportunity. When asked about it after the game he said "Hollis is a good player and I respect his game but I felt there were some areas where I had an edge. Once my shots were falling coach just gave me the green light to go after him"

Re: flight of the hawks(CH2K8 UMES )

Fast paced foot race turns into a marathon

Uganna Conroy, the conference's top scorer, will face the player currently 3rd in that category in Alphonso Wheless. While these two go at it PF Amit Moreno and Walt Spaulding will be another key matchup. Spaulding has been good all year and has put up comparable numbers to Moreno but Moreno is a senior and has proven himself more over the course of his career. Add to this that these are the top 2 scoring teams and the 2 worst teams in terms of points allowed and you are in store for an exciting game.

Regulation play saw big runs by both teams and each team holding leads of over 10 points and ended with the score 95-95. Through 3 overtimes the teams battled back and forth. In the first 2 wheless and each had a chance to put the game away from the line but failed. In the 3rd though when Wheless got his chance he finished the game off pushing the lead to 3 with 1.7 seconds left forcing a desperation 3 which failed to even it up.

Wheless was the driving factor in the hawks offense scoring a season high 51 points. Lukasiak may have only scored 4 points but his 20 boards and 2 blocks were a force.
