Basketball Eh? - djp's Custom Raptors

SPECIAL THANKS TO SOAPY FOR THE BANNER

Hi,
I wanted to do an NBA chise but I wanted to shake things up. I wanted to mold a roster to my liking and I wanted to play with a created team. Then I realized I would be limited to just two jerseys and a generic court, so I decided to take over an NBA team and just release the roster they had. Hope you all will like this.

Player Bios

PG 11 Donovan Davis
Davis is a pass-first point guard who focuses on getting the whole team involved. Decent all-around shooter. Average defender.
NBA Comparison: Mugsy Bouges

SG 4 Stephen Woolridge
Woolridge is a sharpshooter. Was expected to retire but came back for one final year. Doesnt drive the lane. Slow. Weak defender. Slated as the starting SG but could shift into a 6th man role if other players develop.
NBA Comparison: Steve Kerr/John Paxson

SF 33 Theo Thornton
Thronton is the main scoring threat. Monster dunker. Solid all-around shooter. Good defender. Sometimes lets his emotions get in the way. Plays with power.
NBA Comparison: Amare Stoudamire/Dennis Rodman

PF 3 Frederic Petrovic
Petrovic is a cousin of former NBA great Drazen Petrovic. Just came to the NBA last year. Good shooter. Great defender. Plays a little soft, would be better suited as a SF.
NBA Comparison: Detlef Schrempf/Tony Kukoc

C 72 Vladimir Papadopoulous
Papadopoulos is a tenacious defender. Lacks offensive skills. Aging. Great rebounder.
NBA Comparison: Dikembe Mutombo/Luc Longley/Arvydas Sabonis

SG 23 Phil Foster
Foster is the definition of raw talent. At just 19 years old he has a ton of potential. Has drawn comparisons to Kobe and Dwayne Wade. Solid shooter from anywhere on the court. Needs to develop some defense. Has to learn the game.
NBA Comparison: Kobe/Dwayne Wade? (Eric Gordon now)

RAPTORS UPDATE

Foster Throws Down against Minnesota

11-10-11
HOT IN TORONTO
Raptors Start Season 5-0

Coming into the 2012 season most experts expected the Raptors to muddle through another season and wind up around .500, possibly sneaking into the playoffs. With untested rookies at the Point Guard and Sixth Man positions they were expected to struggle early. They have not.

Led by Theo Thornton (23.0PPG, 3.4RPG), Stephen Woolridge (18.8PPG, .658% 3P) and Rookie Sixth Man Phil Foster (18.2PPG, 2.6SPG) Toronto has come out of the gate hot. After blowing out Philly to open the season a week a go they went on to take down the Cavs 119-101 in Cleveland. After that it was another road win against Minnesota by a score of 95-89. Another home win came Monday night when they topped Dallas 94-86. Earlier tonight they knocked off the Clippers in dramatic fashion.

Petrovic tied the game at 97 with seconds left and the Raptors won by 3 in overtime. Woolridge led the way with 38, putting on a three point shooting clinic. "I didn't expect I would have a game like that. Fortunately 3 point shooting isn't something that necessarily declines with age. I got some great feeds and took advantage of a lot of open looks. I'm not really here to put up 38 points a night but you gotta ride the hot hand I guess." Woolridge stated after the game. Thornton added 30 points and 8 boards. Foster had 19 points. Petrovic grabbed 12 rebounds along with his key shot to force overtime. Rookie point man Davis picked up 12 assists and 8 steals.

Petrovic was just 2 for 11 shooting, making the most of his baskets. Toronto was 14 of 16 from the free throw line.

The Raptors will travel to Memphis to host the 3-1 Grizzlies on Friday then it's off to Oklahoma City for a Saturday night date with the 4-1 Thunder.

RAPTORS UPDATE

Thornton Slams One Home Against Dallas

12-01-11
TORONTO STAYS ON TOP
Raptors 10-4 Record Leads East

On November 12th Toronto would push their season-opening win streak to 6 on a low-scoring 86-79 win at Memphis. For the Grizzlies Mayo scored 23. Gay added 17 and Randolph added 12 and 10. Thornton paced Toronto with 27. Woolridge scored 16 in just 9 minutes. Foster recorded 15 and 7. The real star of the game was Davis, who recorded a triple double with 13 points, 11 assists and 14 steals. The points and steals are career highs for Davis and 14 steals is tops in the league all-time.

"Until about half way through the fourth I had no idea about the steals. I really didn't do anything different. He (Memphis PG Michael Conley) was pretty careless with the ball. Maybe he didn't see much tape of me." stated Davis after the game. Conley had 14 turnovers and Gay added 5. Davis led Akron and the MAC in steals all 3 seasons he was there.

Papadopoulous Out-Jumps Gasol at the Opening Tip

Following a hot 6-0 start the Raptors finally lost a game on November 13th when they went down 118-115 in Oklahoma City. Toronto nearly came back to win after trailing by 11 to start the 4th. Woolridge led the way with 24 points while Petrovic added 22 and 10 rebounds.

The Raptors took out their frustrations from the loss on the Suns on the 16th, beating them down by a score of 112-77. Thornton led the way with 26, Woolridge added 20 and Foster had 13. Thornton grabbed 14 boards for the double double and Papadopoulous snagged 13 rebounds.

November 18th saw another dominating win as Toronto downed Milwaukee 115-99. Thornton once again led the way with 22 and 8. Woolridge add 19, Petrovic had 16, Davis 13 and Foster 11. Papadopoulous grabbed 15 boards.

November 23rd saw Toronto suffer their biggest loss as the Celtics came out on top 106-94 in Boston. Woolridge led the way with 18. Thornton had 16, Foster 13, Petrovic 11 and Oden 10. Petrovic grabbed 19 boards in the loss. For Boston Rondo had 19 and Garnett went for 16 and 14. Toronto's Papadopolous left the game early with what is suspected to be a shoulder injury.

On the 25th Toronto squeaked out a 103-101 win in Miami. Miami was up 77-75 after three. Wade's 36 points and Bosh's 26 just weren't enough to cover for the injured LeBron James. Foster led the team with 22. Woolridge scored 19, Petrovic 15, Thornton had 15 as well, playing just 24 minutes with foul trouble.

Exhausted from the marathon against Miami the Raptors couldn't hang with Orlando the very next day and fell to Dwight Howard and company 106-101. Howard had 20 and 12 for the double double. Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 27 and Glen Davis added 22. For Toronto it was once again Thornton leading the team with 23 points along with 8 boards. Petrovic went for 17 and 11. Foster added 14 points. Greg Oden, in his first start for the injured Papadopoulous, went for 13 and 12, his highest totals of the season. Earl Boykins contributed 11 points off the bench. Davis recorded 12 assists.

Boston would take down Toronto for the second time in less than a week by defeating them 100-91 on the 29th. Rondo again led the way with 23 points and 10 assists. Garnett scored 21 and Pierce put in 17. Allen scored 11. Toronto was paced by Foster's 17 points. Petrovic scored 15 and grabbed 7 boards. Oden followed up his double double with another, scoring 12 and grabbing 14 boards. Boykins again scored 11 off the bench. Thornton, once again in foul trouble, scored 10 points in just 21 minutes. Woolridge scored 10 as well. Davis picked up 7 assists.

Toronto would close out the month of November with another big win over Milwaukee, this time by a score of 111-95. Monta Ellis led the Bucks with 29 and Drew Gooden went for 16 and 12. Thornton stayed out of foul trouble and put up 26 to lead the way. Foster scored 25 and had 8 rebounds. Woolridge added 17. Boykins scored 15 off the bench and Petrovic went for 12 and 12. Davis contributed a career high 15 assists.

Toronto starts off December by hosting Miami the 2nd and New York the 4th before traveling to New Jersey on the 5th.

RAPTORS UPDATE

12-02-11
TORONTO TRADES '12 PICK FOR DEPTH
Hassan Whiteside Acquired from Sacramento

With Popodpoulous out for up to 2 weeks and Greg Oden the only other true center on the roster the Raptors decided to make a move. They sent their 2012 2nd round pick to the Kings in exchange for 22 year old 7'0' Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside is expected to add depth and may be the teams big man of the future. Whiteside has averaged 1.6 RPG and .3 BPG along with .6 PPG in just 5.6 MPG.

"Hassan will see a lot of playing time in the next few weeks. With Pap out that leaves us with Greg (Oden) as our only true 5. We don't want to put too much of a load on him this early since he hasn't logged big minutes for a while. When Pap is 100% we'll see where Hassan is at and shuffle the roster accordingly. It's really an ideal situation where he gets more of a chance to prove himself and show off his skill set than he probably would have for the Kings." stated Coach djp after the move was made official.
