Denver, Karl Part Ways; Nuggets Hire Skiles

After an abysmal 14-27 start to the season, the Denver Nuggets front office had seen enough on Friday after a one-point loss to the Wizards and relived longtime head coach George Karl of his duties.

A replacement was apparently in line as within minutes of the Karl firing, Denver had Skiles on the phone discussing a head coaching job. Skiles immediately accepted, sources say.

Denver was expected to be a much improved defensive team from last year, and thus far that has not panned out. The Nuggets are ranked in the bottom ten in the league in every major defensive statistic; their hiring of defensive guru Skiles is a sign that they look to turn things around.

The Nuggets average losing games by just 1.7 points, the lowest mark in the league. No other team with a number lower than five has a losing record.

Skiles is expected to make his Nuggets coaching debut against the Thunder on Saturday. The Nuggets previously lost to the Thunder, 114-111 in Chesapeake Arena last Wednesday.

Reports state that Charlotte and Atlanta have expressed interest in Karl's services.

Loving seeing a few other Raptors fans Bargnani will be gone by the deadline i think, if not he'll be amnestied in the off-season.
