Return of Rip City-Trail Blazers Association

2012-13 Trail Blazers Association

After the loss of potential superstar Greg Oden, and All Star Brandon Roy, the Blazers were left with a young but talented team. They struggled in their first rebuilding year, finishing with a 28-38 record in the 2011-12 season. 2013 looks like a promising season however, as they enter the offseason with a healthy LaMarcus Aldridge and 2 lottery picks.

Following!

Great idea, Portland has a lot of youth and potential, Lillard is a beast, it will be interesting to see how he develops! I'm looking forward to the updates!

2012 NBA DRAFT
Portland has the 6th and 11th picks in the first round, and the 10th pick in the 2nd round.

With the 6th pick in the 2012 draft, Portland picks Damian Lillard from Weber State!
i.png
The 6'3 scoring Point Guard out of Weber State is the perfect pick for Portland. They need an aggressive and athletic point guard to run their team, and Lillard fits the bill. Lillard spent all 4 years in college, and is a very mature player on and off the court.

With the 11th pick in the 2012 draft, Portland picks Meyers Leonard from Illinois!
i (1).png
The 7'1 big man has raw talent. His size and strength makes him a great defensive force in the the paint, and Portland hopes to develop him into a great all around center.

With the 40th pick, the Blazers then drafted Will Barton out of Memphis. He is another young athletic guard, who could help rebuild Portland's bench.

Thanks! It should be an interesting dynasty, I'm hoping I can actually stick with the project.

Game Recap

In their season opener against the LA Lakers, the Blazers struggled and were blown out 110-88. Kobe Bryant was unstoppable with 43 points, 7 rebounds and assists. Aldridge was the leading scorer for the Blazers with 24. Both rookies for the Blazers played very well, Lillard had 14 points and 7 assists but only shot 4-13. Meyers Leonard contributed 6 points and 4 boards off the bench. Eric Maynor led the bench in scoring with 11. There is definitely room for improvement, but they hung in there until the end with a much better team.

Top 3:
L.Aldridge: 24pts,7rbs,3asts,2blks,1to
D.Lillard:14pts,4rbs,7asts,2stls
E.Maynor:11pts,1rb,2ast,

Tough loss, but glad to see that Lillard had a good game despite the off shooting night. Playing the Lakers first is tough, I think you will bounce back in the next game!

I look forward to the updates!

Wesley Matthews shipped to Orlando!
act_wesley_matthews.jpg

In a surprising trade made very early in the season, Portland has traded Wesley Matthews and a 2nd round pick for the 2014 draft to Orlando for Arron Afflalo! This trade was most likely made due to Wesley's poor performance in the first game, where he made no impact at all. Also there were rumors he might be traded late last year, but no team made any offers. We hope Wesley does well in Orlando, and we welcome Arron to the team!

We got a chance to hear from Arron after he heard the news of the trade.

Reporter:What do you think about the trade?
Arron:It was a bit surprising, I had assumed I would stay with the Magic for a while longer. Regardless, I think Portland is a team with a lot of potential.
Reporter:What kind of impact do you think you will make with the team?
Arron:I can be a game changer on offense for the Blazers. I can also help them improve on defense. I think I will be a good fit with this fast paced, offensive team.
Reporter:Thanks for your time, good luck in your game against the Thunder!
