2012 FINAL FOUR

NATIONAL SEMIFINALS:

Minneapolis, MN (AP) – The top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels dismantled the Florida State Seminoles in the first National Semifinal, 104-60. The Heels were led by junior guard Errek Mencio who scored a game high 25 points.

The Seminoles, making their second straight trip to the Final Four, once again came up short. Junior Dawan Craven led the Noles with 16 points. Florida State had lost to North Carolina in the regular season 96-95 in overtime in Chapel Hill, but this one was no contest. The Tarheels led 58-21 at the break and cruised to the victory.

Florida State finished (28-8).

Minneapolis, MN (AP) - The Rice Owls, making their first ever trip to the Final Four, got manhandled by the Stanford Cardinal 91-63 in the second National Semifinal. The Cardinal led by 19 at the half and were never threatened.

Stanford was led by senior center Fabrice Marshall, who scored 21 points.

Rice (33-5) was led by senior Casey Wente with 14 points and six assists.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Minneapolis, MN (AP) - The North Carolina Tar Heels celebrated their fifth National Championship as they defeated the Stanford Cardinal 85-76 at the Metrodome on Monday evening. Senior Hollis Zavackas' 21 points led the way as the Heels overcame a six point deficit in the final minutes.

Zavackas hit three straight threes for the Heels to help erase a 71-65 deficit with 4:31 left.

Fabrice Marshall led the Cardinal with 20 points and six rebounds. This was Stanford's first Final Four appearance since 1998.

PLAYERS LEAVING:

The Bulls lose a couple of key contributors in Sheldon Cuffle and Arnold Pettyjohn. They also lose Alassane Taylor who was a key contributor off of the bench. Two bench players have decided to leave to transfer: Quincy Skrocki, and Temi Medina. Cliffone Woods has decided to leave school and return home. This will free up three additional scholarships and good be a blessing in disguise.

2012 RECRUITING CLASS

The Bulls lost just three players to graduation, two players transferred and one play decided to leave the team. That left Coach Walberg with six available scholarships. He used four and will have two additional ones for next season.

Coach Walberg came to Buffalo with the reputation of being a very good recruiter while at Pepperdine. He did not disappoint, pulling in the 16th best class in the nation.
