NBA 2K14 Los Angeles Lakers Association - The Last Chapter, The Legend Continues

As one of the most toughest and deadliest NBA players enters the final stretch of his illustrious career, he will be doing so by coming back from the most career threatening injury he has faced.  After tearing his achillies heal in the Lakers 77th regular season game against the Golden State Warriors, Kobe Bryant like the assassin and gladiator that he is limped back onto the court and headed to the free throw line to shoot two free throws and then head back to the locker room.  On one foot Kobe Bryant hit nothing but net on both free throws that actually put the Lakers up by two points and they would hold on and pull out a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they would be doing so without their leader who on one foot limped off the court and walked back to the locker room, unsure if that was the last time he would ever play on the STAPLES Center court.  The Lakers would eventually win out the remaining games of the 2012-13 season including an overtime victory over the Houston Rockets in the regular season finale with the winner going into the playoffs as the seventh seed and the loser going into the playoffs as the eighth seed.  Facing the San Antonio Spurs in the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lakers roster looked more like a depleated military company as they just about had as many players out with injury as in uniform.  Who would've thought that the Lakers would begin the season with a starting backcourt of Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant and end the season with Darius Morris and Andrew Goudelock (who was named the NBA D-League MVP prior to the Lakers final game of the season and being swept out of the playoffs).  In what was the exclamation point in such a injury riddeled season, Dwight Howard's last game in a Laker uniform ended before halftime when he was ejected.  As the fans at STAPLES could tell that he was not just walking off the court and into the locker room, but he was then going to go home and pack for free agency, the sellout crowd ushered his stay in Los Angeles with a round of boos which minutes later turned into a standing ovation as just within seconds of Howard leaving the court, Kobe Bryant emerged from the tunnel to take a seat behind the Lakers bench and be there with his teammates.  Kobe Bryant, vowed that he would not only come back from his torn achillies, but that he would come back quicker then any athlete ever has from that injury.  Doctors said he would be out 8-9 months at the most and not even within 8 weeks of surgery was Kobe Bryant out of his walking boot, stitches removed and running on a specialized treadmill.  By the time training camp came, Kobe was on schedule to begin vigorous workouts in less then two weeks and when the team went over to China as part of the NBA's exhibition season with the Golden State Warriors, prior to both games, the sold out crowds got the surprise they weren't expecting, seeing Kobe Bryant on his practice gear, running sprints at full speed and going through his jump shot sessions before heading back into the locker room for treatment and to ride the stationary bike.  Now as the pre-season has come to and end and the 2013-14 NBA season is about to begin, the Lakers will be without their fearless leader for at least the first month of the season as Kobe has made it known that once the doctors clear him he will need two weeks of "his training" and he will be ready to go.  Can the Lakers who begin the 2013-14 season with a team that more or less resembles an NBA D-league roster right the ship til their leader returns?  Can Steve Nash at 40 years old return from his most injury plagued season of his career and be somewhat effective and productive?  Can Pau Gasol return to the form that earned him All-NBA Second team honors and three consecutive All-Star selections?  Will Mike D'Antoni make it through the season or will he shown the door if the Lakers are not winning?  And finally, with the majority of the players on this roster not under contract after this season, will it be each player looking out for whats best for them or will egos be put to the side and each player prove that they are more then just a one year roster filler?  Those questions will all be answered as we watch what Kobe Bryant has dubbed, "The Last Chapter."

Association Settings

Roster set: Trifecta 2K14

Slider set: Trifecta 2K14

Draft class:  Trifecta 2K14 (possible 2015 & 2016 class)

Difficulty: All-Star

Player Roles:  Off (this will be the first time I will be playing with player roles off)

Team Chemistry:  On

Injuries:  All players injured prior to opening night have been put on injured reserved with the correct duration period

I posted a youtube video below from Shady00018 who makes great videos involving the 2K game and with the theme of my Lakers association I felt that instead of including the video that Nike put together I would use a fellow community members video that was almost mirrored the Nike one.

NBA Power Rankings: Training Camp

Power Rankings - Training Camp

You made it!  You survived another long, hot, humid summer.  Seven NBA teams held their annual media day on the this first Friday of fall, and the 165-day wait for the NBA and the Power Rankings weekly return is mercifully over.  It's time to start fresh for all 30 teams with the Miami Heat taking their rightful place at the top of the mountain, after winning their second straight NBA championship over the San Antonio Spurs in a thrilling seven game series.  The Heat are closely followed by the Pacers and Nets both of whom are in the top five and should present a challenge for the two time defending champs.  The Western Conference, despite losing the for the second straight season in the NBA Finals remains by far the deeper of the two conferences, but the East is where the most intrigue for a change, since there are three teams potentially, depending on how Derrick Rose returns after missing the entire season last year with a knee injury, if he can return to his MVP form, you will have the Bulls join the Pacers and Nets as those teams in the East that can prevent the Heat from even getting close to the a fourth successive NBA Finals and third straight championship.

The two-time champion Heat, however, naturally start at No.1 , which is a courtesy to the reigning champs no matter what they did in the offseason.  The preseason rankings, as always, weighs a team's personnel successes (or failures) from the summer as well as injuries.  That would explain why the Pacers, Nets, Doc Rivers' Los Angeles Clippers and Dwight Howard's Houston Rockets have all climbed up above the top 10 and also why the Kobe Bryant-less L.A. Lakers and Rajon Rondo-less Boston Celtics are the lowest they've been in over a decade.

The next rankings edition will be scheduled for October 28th, the night before the season begins.  So we will have the next month to get a better feel for everyone during their exhibition play.

2013-14 Los Angeles Lakers Preseason Review Report

Lakers finish preseason 4-4, an improvement over last year's 0-8

The Lakers have completed their exhibition season with a reasonable and much more encouraging 4-4 record.  Just a year ago, with Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Metta World Peace, the Lakers went 0-8 through the preason (first winless preseason in franchise history).  Bryant is still trying to recover from tearning an Achilles' tendon in April, Dwight Howard is in Houston with the Rockets, World Peace was a victim of the amnesty clause and Nash isn't quite himself with ankle and neck issues.

The team traveled to China for a pair of games against the Golden State Warriors.  Various players sat with injury, including Wesley Johnson (foot), Jordan Farmar (calf), and Chris Kaman (gastroenteritis).  Still, the Lakers were relatively competitive.  Preason might give a glimpse of what's to come but it's rarely an accurate gauge of the season ahead.

In the Western Conference, the New Orleans Hornets finished with the best record in the preseason at 7-1, followed by the Rockets (6-1).

The Lakers, who reached .500 with Friday's 111-106 win over the Utah Jazz, finished tied with the ninth-best record with the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies.

Only five teams in the East had winning records, including the Chicago Bulls who wetn a perfect 8-0.

One of the bigget questions for the Lakers going into the season is defense.  Over eight preseason games, the Lakers gave up an average of 99.9 points, second-worst in the West.

But how meaningful is that number when the San Antonio Spurs gave up 104.6 points a game?

Offensively the Lakers scored 96.4 points a game - nowhere near the 106.7 the Rockets poured in through seven games.

As a team, the Lakers shot just 40.9% from the field and 33.2% from behind the three-point line.

Rebounding stood out as a weakness with opponenets averaging 49.4 rebounds a game to the Lakers 41.0.

One clear improvement over last year?  The Lakers shot 79.0% from the free throw line, a jump from 69.2% a season ago.

How do you determine when to wear alternate jerseys?
