SEASON SERIES 1-0 GSW
MVP: Klay Thompson. Thompson showed off why many consider him the best two way shooting guard in the NBA by standing toe to toe with Kobe Bryant and getting the best of him. Wes Johnson had to duty to guard Thompson but Thompson guarded Kobe to entire a game and still finished with 24 points and 7 rebounds on 10-of-18 shooting. Thompson also grabbed 7 boards and finished with 2 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

LVP: Jeremy Lin. Lin has continued his funk to start the season finishing with just 8 points on 3-of-12 shooting. The former Harvard grad has struggled to find his role with the Lakers dating back to the preseason. Bryant has wanted Lin to take control of the offense but he hasn't been able to buy a bucket all season and has struggled with turning the ball over at an alarming rate.

X-Factor: David Lee. Lee had a very efficient night going up against Carlos Boozer finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lee shot a blistering 8-of-11 from the field making Boozer look silly at times. With Curry struggling all game, Lee stepped in to help the Warriors in a low scoring affair by their standards.

Rookie Watch: Julius Randle. Randle finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench for the Lakers. While Boozer played 12 more minutes, Randle matched his point totale and only had 2 less rebounds while going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.

By The Numbers: 47. The Lakers shot a season worse 47% from the free throw line. In a game where they only lost by three points, those missed freebies came back to haunt them.

MVP: Kobe Bryant. Through the first 5 game of the season, Kobe Bryant has been in MVP form. Showing to effects from his past two major surgeries, Bryant has picked up his play from 2 years ago when he tore his achilles. Bryant finished with 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 assist on 12-of-24 shooting in the win.

LVP: Isaiah Thomas. Thomas was paid the big bucks to come to Phoenix to give them a top notch scoring threat off the bench and to be insurance in case Eric Bledsoe got injured again. Thomas struggled against the pesky defense of Jeremy Lin going a woeful 4-of-13 from the field in 24 minutes. Thomas' plus/minus was a -6 for the Suns while on the court.

X-Factor: Ed Davis. The Lakers picked up the former Tar Heel on a bargain deal this summer and it has paid off. Davis finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting. Davis feasted on Phoenix's second unit big men scoring at will on Anthony Tolliver and Marcus Morris.

Rookie Watch: Julius Randle. Randle had a quiet night against the Suns with 6 points and 4 rebounds. The 7th overall pick had a rough night shooting the ball finishing 3-of-10 from the field. As soon as Randle would get near the paint Phoenix would bring a double team and the rookie would force up a shot instead of looking for the open man.

By The Numbers: 21. The Suns, known for their red hot three point shooting, shot just 21% from three point land while the Lakers shot 47% from three.

Lin Suffers Broken Ankle

Lin Sidelined With Broken Ankle
__________________________________________________

ESPN.com news services

The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that point guard Jeremy Lin will miss time with a broken ankle he suffered against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. Head Trained Gary Vitti said Lin will have surgery today.

The injury bug bites LA again.

Lin, was acquired from the Houston Rockets over the summer, has appeared in 5 games for the Lakers and has averaged 7.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 4.8 apg, and 1.0 spg while shooting a career low 31% from the field and a career high 47% from three.

During the 3rd quarter against Phoenix, Lin came down awkwardly on his ankle after missing a corner three. He needed to be help off the court after not being able to apply any pressure on the broken ankle. Lin said he knew something was wrong because he heard a pop as soon as he landed on the ground.

The Lakers estimate that Lin will miss the next 6-8 weeks with the broken ankle. This is bad news for the Lakers who already without Steve Nash (back) and Nick Young (hand). Nash is expected to miss the entire season while Young is expected back in a few weeks.

With Lin out, veteran Ronnie Price is expected to become the starter and rookie Jordan Clarkson will see a increase in minutes off the bench.
