Yeah, we play a pretty fast pace, and I'm not that good on defense so it all kind of comes together for high scoring games. It's fun to play.

Kennesaw State Owls (8-4) 77

KENNESAW, GA - It was not a perfect game by any means, but Kennesaw State did enough to hold off in-state foe Savannah State for a 77-68 win to improve the Owls' record to 2-0 on their current 5 game home stand. The win also marks the 6th in the last 8 games for Coach Freeman's boys who are now brimming with confidence.

The visiting Tigers did not make things easy early, but Kennesaw State could also not find the bottom of the bucket with any regularity in the 1st half. In the first 20 minutes, the Owls shot just 13/33 (39%) while Savannah State 16/34 (47%). All of this combined to see Kennesaw State go into the halftime break trailing 35-33. Seamus Olaiya and Jimmy Villanueva who each scored 26 points in the Owls last game only had 8 and 4 respectively in the opening frame.

After a stern talking to in the locker room from Coach Freeman, Kennesaw State came out determined in the 2nd half. The Owls would take the lead quickly from Savannah State, and when Brian Sloan converted a finger roll at the 10:21 mark, Kennesaw State's lead was pushed to double digits at 61-50. That lead would never be surrendered as the Owls win on to win by a margin of 9 points and upped their final shooting tally to 33/68 (48%) for the game. Kennesaw State also dominated inside, out scoring the Tigers in the paint by the wide margin of 62-34.

Sloan led Kennesaw State with a big 18 point, 10 rebound night while Villanueva and Olaiya each had 16 points for the Owls. Leland Figueroa was Savannah State's top point producer with 19, Hubert Vignale had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Malcolm Cuffee scored 12 points.

Kennesaw State has now concluded their non-conference campaign with an impressive 8-4 record for a club that was 13-18 a season ago. The Owls next begin Atlantic Sun Conference play against another in-state opponent the Mercer Bears (7-5) on January 5.
