Lakers Exercise Team Option on Julius Randle
By Drew Garrison @DrewGarrisonSBN on Oct 15, 2015, 4:45pm

EL SEGUNDO – The Los Angeles Lakers have exercised their team option for the 2016-17 season on forward Julius Randle, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.

Randle, the seventh overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft, appeared in one game as a rookie, scoring two points in his professional debut on October 28th against Houston before suffering a fractured tibia in his right leg. The second-year player out of Kentucky has started in all five Lakers preseason contests in 2015, averaging 12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.20 steals in 24.5 minutes.

Lakers waive Robert Upshaw, Michael Frazier II as roster cuts begin
By Drew Garrison @DrewGarrisonSBN on Sep 20, 2015, 11:38a

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived undrafted center Robert Upshaw and Michael Frazier II, the team announced in a press release. Upshaw was a high-profile talent the Lakers immediately reached a Summer League commitment from once the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft concluded, and he eventually progressed to be one of the final training camp invitees.

The Lakers are narrowing a 19-player training camp roster to a maximum of 15 players, leaving them with more decisions to make on the direction of their roster. Cutting Upshaw means both Robert Sacre and Tarik Black are another step closer to rounding out the Lakers' frontcourt depth.

Frazier has had moment in preseason, but with so many young players in their backcourt, seemed like a longshot. Now with Marcelo Huertas' successful return to action, it's not surprising the Lakers were ready to make this decision as well.

Final cuts could be in before the Lakers play again on the 22nd. Two more cuts are needed, but the front office could also consider dropping to 14 players for additional flexibility.

Lakers waive Jonathan Holmes, must make one more roster cut
By Drew Garrison @DrewGarrisonSBN on Oct 24, 2015, 10:12a

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived undrafted prospect Jonathan Holmes, the team announced in a press release. This move brings the Lakers' roster down to 16 players, leaving one final cut before they are at the maximum allowed roster size. The Lakers will continue paying Holmes, however, while the former Texas Longhorn rehabilitates a dislocated right shoulder.

One player must go, and most anticipate it will come down to either Jabari Brown or Metta World Peace. World Peace has been an influential mentor on the roster, working closely with Julius Randle and adding another veteran into the fold to help guide the youth movement. Brown was a late call-up last season and showed signs he could develop into an off-the-bench three-point threat.

Byron Scott and the Lakers' young players have all said positive things about having established players to round out the roster, but Brown could continue developing into a role player to help them moving forward. There's also the possibility that Brown is cut, clears waivers, and finds his way back to the D-Fenders.

The Lakers could also move on from one of their other smaller, partially-guaranteed contracts like Robert Sacre or Tarik Black, but that seems unlikely at this point. The Lakers have also waived Michael Frazier II and Robert Upshaw along the way, closing in on the final 15 they will open the season with on Wednesday.

Lakers keeping Metta World Peace, cut Jabari Brown for final 15-man roster
By Drew Garrison @DrewGarrisonSBN on Oct 26, 2015, 10:34a

Metta World Peace has made the Los Angeles Lakers' final roster. Jabari Brown was cut by the Lakers Monday as the team moved down to a league mandated maximum of 15 players on their roster going in to the regular season, reports Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Brown showed promise as a scorer last season, first with the Los Angeles D-Fenders and then in 19 games for the Lakers as the team called him up to their roster amid their injury plagued season. Brown averaged 11.9 points per game in 29.9 minutes a game while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and a very nice 37.1 percent from three-point range.

Brown struggled in Las Vegas Summer League and then in 6 preseason games for the Lakers, in which he was second on the team in turnover ratio, giving the ball away on 17.5 percent of his possessions. Brown also shot 37.5 percent from the field and 22.2 percent on three-pointers. In the end, the 22-year old was not able to show enough to convince the team to part ways with Metta World Peace, who was limited in the preseason but will stay on the roster mostly as a veteran mentor for the team's younger players like Julius Randle.

The Lakers open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, October 28th at 7:30 pm PT.

Re: Purple Reign

Look at that snake fly! Great stuff and a great way to start, though I think the Kings will give you a harder time.
