Nuggets win on opening night

Houston, Texas - In a season filled with low expectations for one team, and high expectations for the other the roles were flip flopped tonight.

After James Harden went off in the first half head Mike Malone decided to make a switch of who would be defending one of the best shooting guards in the league. He decided to take Gary Harris off of him, and put rookie Point Guard Emmanuel Mudiay onto him.

In the second half the all-star shooting guard started to look more like just an above-average player. Mudiay did a great job shutting him down, but Harden still got a few shots to fall which you can expect.

The Rockets were led by Harden who scored 28 points on 11-17 shooting. Harden also hit 75 percent of his shots from long distance. Trevor Ariza was also a key contributor as he dropped 16 points, but more importantly kept Danilo Gallinari in check.

The Nuggets were led by Kenneth Faried who scored 17 points on just 9 shot attempts. Rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay also had a nice showing in his first game. He played great defense as we have mentioned, but he also helped on the offensive end scoring 13 points.

The Nuggest now host Minnesota at home on the 30th. The line has opened at -5.5, favoring the Nuggets.

Week 1 Recap

The Nuggets opened the 2015/16 campaign with a win against James Harden and the Houston Rockets. The game was a low scoring one with buckets hard to come by. The Nuggets were led by Kenneth Faried who had 17 points, and 12 rebounds. James Harden put on a show but it was not enough as the good guys won 85-80.

The only other game this week featured the young Minnesota Timberwolves. This was the home opener for Denver, and the crowd was behind them the entire way. This featured a sell-out crowd which you probably won't see to much of this season if it does the way many are predicting it to go.

Denver was led by Wilson Chandler, the Small Forward who came up huge with 27 points in just 26 minutes of game action. Most of Chandler's points came from behind the arc on 5-11 shooting from long distance. He was also 6-6 from the free throw line.

Danilo Gallinari was also a key contributor in this game against the inexperienced T-Wolves. DG had 15 points on 7-14 shooting. Rookie Point Guard Emmanuel Mudiay showed his distributing skills with 11 assists. He also added 6 points.

The Nuggets end up winning the game by a final score of 107-84. The bench warmers love a game like this, and so don't the starters.

The Nuggets have a big week ahead of them, traveling to Oklahoma City and Los Angles (Lakers), before hosting Utah at home. To cap off the week Denver travels to Oracle Arena to take on the leagues reigning champs in Golden State.

If the Nuggets can make it out of the week .500 or better that would be a win in most peoples book.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Players of the Week: Kevin Durant (OKC), Chris Bosh (MIA)

Denver Nugget Player of the week: PF Kenneth Faried - 15 Points per game, 10.5 Rebounds per game, and 2.5 Steals per game.

Thompson, Warriors to much for Denver

Oakland, California: The Warriors were just to much for the Denver Nuggets tonight. They were in the game for three and a half quarters but in the end the game ended how it should. That is with the most talented team in the league coming out on top by a score of 98-85.

Stephen Curry was not on his best game tonight as he (only?) finished with 16 points. Normally for a player that would be looked at as a solid night, but for the best point guard in the league he was off. You have to give credit where credit is due, and that is due to Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay held Curry to 7-20 shooting, and kept him without a three pointer.

However there isn't a reason to panic when Curry is off of his A game, because there are about 3 or 4 guys that can fill the scoring void for him. Tonight that void was filled by his splash brother Klay Thompson. Thompson finished with 31 points on 12-19 shooting (6-9 3 Pt Shot.)

The Nuggets were led by Kenneth Faried who finished with 15 points and 8 boards. Rookie Point Guard Mudiay also showed flashed of greatness finishing with 14 points and shutting down the leagues best point guard.

The Nuggets didn't win this game, but it sounds like the locker room is taking this a moral victory. They were in the game until the late fourth in the leagues toughest place to win. There isn't a reason for them to hang their heads.

Week 2 Recap (4-2)

Before the week began many would have taken a .500 record coming out of the week that included Oklahoma City, Los Angeles Lakers, the Utah Jazz, and Golden State. Your Denver Nuggets did not disappoint and are currently sitting at 4-2, coming out of the week .500

It started out traveling to Oklahoma City where it was a defensive battle. The game finished in the 60's with OKC edging it out late, 66-61. (For some reason the sim quarter got turned down to 6 minutes? Sorry!) OKC was led by the young Cameron Payne who scored 15 points. Wilson Chandler once again had a good game and finished with 10, leading the Nuggets. The Nuggets didn't hang their head however, because the Thunder are the better team and they won the game as they should have.

The second game of the week featured another away game, this time featuring Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Bryant didn't have a good game however, shooting 2-12 from the floor and finishing with 8 points. Wilson Chandler stayed hot coming off of the bench and led the team in points with 19, and added 8 boards. Kenneth Faried added a double double performance, going for 12 and 10. The Nuggets squeaked out of LA with a win, 99-90.

The third game of the week, and also the most winnable game was not really a game from the start. The only home game of the week got the Nugget crowd behind them, and never looked back. Outscoring the Jazz 38-22 in the second quarter was a huge boost, and they never looked back winning 110-98. Danilo Gallinari had himself a game in which he dropped 23 points, and added 8 rebounds and 6 dimes.

The last game, and the biggest game was not really close and it didn't favor the Nuggets. However we already update fans on this game, and it can be seen above.

So, I guess it is fair to call this week a success despite finishing with a 2-2 record.

The slate doesn't get any easier as the Nuggets prepare for another 4 game week, but this time they host three of the games. It starts off with Portland, then the Bucks, before James Harden and Houston come to town in which will be a rematch of the first game of the season that Denver won. The week ends with a trip to the beautiful city of Phoenix to face the Suns. Realistic expectations should be a 2-2 week once again, with wins against the Bucks and Suns, while dropping the Portland and Houston games, however the games aren't played on paper.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Denver player of the week: Wilson Chandler - 12.8 Points per game, 5.3 Rebounds per game, and 1.7 Assist per game

Nuggets squeak past Trail Blazers at home

Denver, Colorado - Home games in the NBA are a must win if you want to have any chance to make the postseason, and are even bigger to win if you are lucky enough to make the postseason. The Nuggets had an opportunity to win on their home court tonight, and they did just that.

The Nuggets might not have been the better basketball team as the opponent had better shooters, dribblers, and even had a star in Damien Lillard. However the Nuggets did field that far more athletic team and that showed today.

Emmanuel Mudiay did his best effort to shut down the star point guard, who still managed to score 27 points on some pretty solid defense. Mudiay used his speed to stay in front of Dame, and it worked for most of the game. Mudiay was also huge on the offensive end with another double-double. He ended the game with 13 points, and also dished out 10 assists, 9 of which were in the first half.

When you are not a great shooting team there is one thing you must do, and that is not force a shot. They have a hard enough time making an uncontested shot and an even harder time taking a shot with a hand in the face and the Nuggets did a good job at making the extra pass tonight.

Kenneth Faried led the team in points, once again using his insane athletic ability to score on the less athletic defenders. In a game where he shot 5-7, and 7-7 at the line Kenneth did a great job at taking only shots that were there.

One last main point to this ball game was the free throw shooting for Denver. Denver shot 22-24 on free throws, thus making them almost as free as they can be. Without such a great performance at the line and the Nuggets might be on the other side of this game.

The Nuggets host Milwaukee next, in a game in which vegas has Denver favored by 7.5.
