Bringing the NBA to the Music City: NBA 2K16 Relocation MyLeague

I got together with a couple friends and we started a MyLeague. We then had the idea of doing a rebrand for our favorite teams. While I was searching for some ideas or logos, I came across a rebrand on YouTube that I absolutely loved and wanted to do something similar to it. However, I realized that with a few modifications, I could relocate the team and still keep nearly the same format. Because of that, I will be relocating that team to Nashville, Tennessee since I haven't seen an NBA 2K relocation to Nashville on either Operation Sports or by anyone on YouTube. So, this will hopefully be something new and entertaining for everyone following along.

To start this MyLeague off, I will post what team I'll be using and then I will simulate the 2015-16 season and begin playing in the 2016-17 season.

I would just like to note that the MyLeague I'm currently doing on Operation Sports with 2001-2002 rosters will still continue.

Game: NBA 2K16
Console: PS4
Roster: Official NBA Roster by Watts
Sliders: Best Sliders by jdny11 (I bumped up trade difficulty from 45 to 55)
Difficulty: Superstar
Quarter Length: 10 Minutes

NBA approves Hornets move to Nashville

Nashville, TN -- On Monday, August 31, 2015, NBA owners overwhelmingly approved the Hornets' relocation bid to Nashville by a 29-1 vote.

The move is due to a surprising deal in which a Nashville group of investors bought the team for $1 Billion. According to Forbes, the Hornets franchise is ranked #26 in the NBA in terms of total team value as the franchise is estimated to be worth $750 Million. But due to the team values rising in the NBA, that number should surpass the $1 Billion mark within the next decade.

The Hornets will now become Nashville's 3rd professional team along with the Nashville Predators of the NHL and the Tennessee Titans of the NFL. The city also has a baseball team, the Nashville Sounds, who are the Triple A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.

The Hornets will now share Bridgestone Arena with the Nashville Predators. Bridgestone Arena was built in 1996 when the NHL first expressed interest in giving an expansion team to the city. It was also built due to the possibility of the Sacramento Kings relocating to the city back in 1996. However, that deal obviously did not take place, so it has been used exclusively for the Nashville Predators and other big events like concerts for the past 19 years. It is estimated that the Arena will be able to hold 19,395 people in attendance for Hornets basketball games.

Now, despite having the Titans in Nashville since 1997 and the Predators in Nashville since 1998, neither team has won a major championship (Super Bowl or Stanley Cup). The closest either team has gotten to winning it all was back in 1999 when the Titans lost Super XXXIV to the St. Louis Rams.

And now, the city of Nashville is getting an NBA franchise that was founded in 1988 and hasn't even won a Division Title to this day. The Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats teams since 1988 have a record of 916-1168 and have only gotten out of the first round of the playoffs 4 times in 27 years. The new majority owner of this Hornets franchise, Danny Carmichael, addressed that in a press conference.

"The city of Nashville and Hornets fans have gone far too long without a Championship team. That is going to change. I will make sure we have the best front office personnel making the right moves for our roster. I also want to make sure we establish a young core to our team, so that we can be one of the top teams in the NBA for years to come," Carmichael said in the press conference.

Carmichael continued to say, "We're looking into making some big moves early this year that that will set the foundation for our franchise for the next decade."

The 2015-16 season will be the Hornets final season in Charlotte, before they move to Nashville for good starting in the 2016-17 season.

Hornets Make First Roster Move Under New Management

Newly acquired SF Nicolas Batum was dealt to the 76ers

December 21, 2015 -- In his first Press Conference as majority owner of the Hornets franchise, Danny Carmichael announced that there may be some roster moves that take place. Well, the first roster move was made today.

The Hornets, who are currently sitting in 8th place in the East, have reached an agreement that will send newly acquired SF Nicolas Batum and a 2018 1st Round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for the Lakers 2016 1st Round pick and PG Kendall Marshall.

Batum has struggled all season long, averaging just 5.6 PPG and shooting just .379 from the floor as he is coming off the bench as the sixth man due to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist starting at SF. Batum is in the final year of his contract, which is paying him $13 Million this year. Batum has openly stated that he wants to test free agency in the off-season. So, instead of losing Batum, the Hornets front office dealt him to the 76ers in return for assets, which they would not have gotten had Batum left in free Agency. If the season ended today, the Lakers pick is projected as the #5 pick in the draft.

This is a fantastic move for the Hornets as they could end up with a Top 5 pick along with a mid 1st rounder for the 2016 NBA Draft. The 76ers got a pretty solid deal out of it as well, since they will now have a proven Small Forward who could still break out of his scoring struggles and another 1st Round pick in 2018.

Hornets Make Big Trade Dealine Move

The Hornets trade Al Jefferson back to the Utah Jazz

February 18, 2016 -- The Hornets continue to try and build for the future as they traded star Center Al Jefferson back to the Utah Jazz in a 5 player deal.

Charlotte Hornets Trade:
C Al Jefferson
PF Tyler Hansbrough
G Aaron Harrison
2019 2nd Round Pick

Utah Jazz Trade:
C Rudy Gobert
SF Joe Ingles

The Hornets decided to move Al Jefferson on the trading deadline because the veteran big man has been battling injuries this season, on top of putting up just 10.6 PPG, which is his lowest total since the 2005-06 season. Jefferson is also in the final year of his contract which is paying him $13.50 Million. As of this trade, Jefferson was leaning towards testing free agency in the off-season and that played a big role in moving him.

In return for Jefferson, the Hornets receive 23 year old big man Rudy Gobert. Gobert is not an offensive threat by any means, but he is a fantastic rebounder and shot blocker. Gobert is currently averaging double double with 10.6 PPG and 10.8 RPG which are both career highs.

The Hornets may have given up too much as they traded a starting Center who has All-Star caliber, a vital role player, a young player with potential, and a draft pick for a Center. However, if Gobert can develop an offensive game, this will end up being a fantastic trade for the Hornets as they will have another solid piece to the young core that owner Danny Carmichael often speaks of.

The Jazz will now get an offensive minded, veteran big man who should definitely help them get to the playoffs. The Jazz also added some depth in this trade as they add a solid role player in Hansbrough, and a young guard in Harrison who could eventually develop into a good player. As long as Jefferson stays healthy, this trade should definitely help a Jazz offense that has been surprisingly poor this year as they rank in the bottom half of the league in scoring.
