HOT START, TYSON'S 24 LEAD UMES PAST STONY BROOK 87-73
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- First year head coach William Hughes picked up the first win of his young coaching career on Thursday as UMES rolled past Stony Brook by the score of 87-73.
The UMES Hawks jumped out to a blazing hot start and never looked back, leading by as much as 23 points, 39-16 in the first half before coasting into the break with a 48-31 lead. Stony Brook would get it as close as 10 points midway through the second half, but the Hawks responded forcefully, extending the lead to as much as 27 points before letting Stony Brook come back a little at the end.
UMES was led by player of the game Ed Tyson, who scored 24 points on 10-15 shooting. Freshman Ishmawiyl McFadden added to his 11 point debut with a double-double in this contest, scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 8-10 from the field. Freshman guard Marc Davis also put up a double-double in this game with 12 points and 12 assists. He was 5-5 from the floor. Such production from the freshmen shows that the future is bright for UMES. Not to be forgotten, sophomore guard Danijel Krleski had 15 points, and junior forward Aleksandar Popovic added 11 boards.
"It feels great to get that first win, and this was a good one," said Coach Hughes, "Our whole team played great and we showed those Sea Wolves who is boss."

BRADLEY ABSOLUTELY DISMANTLES UMES 107-60
PEORIA, IL -- Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-2) went on the road Sunday and lost in embarrassing fashion to the Bradley Braves (2-1). Bradley jumped on the hapless Hawks from the opening tip, cruising to a 56-30 lead at the end of the first half and following that up with a 51-30 performance in the second.
"We just got destroyed" said first-year head coach William Hughes, "The only thing to be encouraged about is Ishmawiyl's performance."
Indeed, freshman forward Ishmawiyl McFadden continued the stellar start to his career, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 boards in the contest. Ed Tyson also had 19 points, while Danijel Krleski had 13. For Bradley, junior guard Maris Ramelli came off the bench to grab player of the game honors, scoring 29 points in only 20 minutes of play. He shot 11-20 from the floor.
In their next game, UMES stays on the road to face the Iowa Hawkeyes (2-1).

Despite Competitive First Half, UMES Falls to Iowa
Iowa City, IA -- Maryland-Eastern Shore played well to start the game Tuesday in a road match-up against the Iowa Hawkeyes. UMES led 23-20 with 5:50 remaining in the first half and would enter the break down only 1 with the score 34-33 in Iowa's favor. However, the Hawks could not hold on in the second half as they were eventually worn down by Iowa's superior talent and conditioning.
Iowa senior guard Arnaud Dasilva was the player of the game. He had 16 points, though he shot only 5-23 from the field and 4-19 from deep. Maryland-Eastern Shore was led by junior guard Ed Tyson who scored 19 points and shot 7-14. Freshman forward Ishmawiyl McFadden, who had scored two consecutive double-doubles and three double digit scoring nights to begin his career, only managed 1 point tonight on 0-4 shooting.
