Re: The Reawakening: Dallas Mavericks (NBA 2K19)

Mavericks Outlast Warriors in Double OT, 169-161, to Advance to NBA Finals

Luka Doncic put on an all-time great performance with a 55 point triple-double to help the Mavericks advance to the NBA Finals.

Kevin Durant scored 45 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished 7 assists for the Warriors in the loss.

Kristaps Porzingis notched 47 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks for the Mavericks in the win.

Stephen Curry accounted for 73 Warriors points with 41 points and 15 rebounds.

Dallas, TX (AP) -- Game seven, Western Conference Finals. Two 60+ win teams squaring off with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line. It would be hard to write a better script. A 50 point triple-double; three other 40 point scorers; double overtime; 330 combined points. Hollywood could hire their best writers, their best producers, their best directors, and still couldn't have written a better ending to an all-time great series than what unfolded last night.

For a short time, though, it seemed as if the Dallas Mavericks were going to cruise their way to the finals. Up 116-105 with 3:30 left in regulation, and in the midst of a 21-6 run, the Mavericks were poised to advance. But, as the past five years have proven, you cannot count out arguably the greatest dynasty in the NBA since Jordan's Bulls. An onslaught of Warriors threes saw them pull even by the end of regulation, capitalized by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Klay Thompson to force OT after tying the score 121-121.

Overtime was not short on dramatics. Both teams traded buckets during the five minute period. The Mavericks seemed poised to advance after gaining a seven point advantage with two minutes remaining in the first OT, but the Warriors would not go away. After a Klay Thompson steal, Stephen Curry calmly connected on a deep three on the Warriors fastbreak to put the Warriors ahead 145-143 with 18 seconds remaining. However, second-year-sensation Luka Doncic hit a hotly-contested driving layup to beat the buzzer as the Mavericks tied the game and forced a second overtime period.

After Jordan Bell blew an open shot at the rim that would've tied the game, a Doncic driving dunk with 3:35 remaining the second overtime gave the Mavericks a four point lead, 151-147. The Warriors continued to fight. Draymond Green hit an open three with 2:25 remaining to make it a 155-154 game in favor of the Mavericks. Porzingis hit two free-throws on the Mavs ensuing possession to extend their lead to three with two minutes left on the clock. Dallas seemingly gained the final upper-hand after the Warriors came up empty on their next possession. Doncic knifed his way through the Warriors defense and finished the play with a thunderous dunk to put the Mavericks ahead 161-156 with 1:20 left in the game.

After Dallas came up with one more defensive stand, they expertly dwindled the clock. Doncic dribbled the shot clock down near halfcourt and sized up Stephen Curry. With eight seconds remaining on the shot clock, Doncic used a Porzingis ball screen to evade Curry, attacked the open lane, and rose for a one-handed slam for his 51st point of the night to ice the game for the Mavericks.

The Golden State Warriors, winners of four of the past five championships including the last three, had been dethroned. There will be a new champion in the NBA.
