2011-12 Season Wrap-Up

Posted 07-22-2013 at 06:38 PM by hattrick3518
Deadline day was one of the most boring days all season, as Edmonton made zero moves and the rest of the league only combined for five moves all day.

The Oilers finished the season with a 44-34-4 record good for 92 points and the 7th seed in the Western Conference.

Some players made great strides this season, most notably Jordan Eberle and Tyler Ennis. Ennis who was bumped to the teams top line in February managed to put up 40 points over the teams last 36 games. He and Eberle may have found some chemistry.

Taylor Hall failed to improve on his rookie season statistics, tallying only 40 points. He will need to step up for sure. Another disappointment was the performance of Alex Semin, the team spent big money for his services this past offseason, and he only managed to put 38 points up on the board. He has three years remaining on his deal.

One of the best offseason acquisitions appears to be defenseman Josh Gorges, he scored 5 goals and 26 points, and was also +11 on the season. He, along with rookie Luca Sbisa were perhaps the teams best defenseman all season long. Sbisa, who was acquired from Anaheim at last seasons deadline suited up for all 82 games this season, scoring 27 points, and lead all defenseman at +16.

Edmonton was swept in four games by the #2 seeded Phoenix Coyotes.
