The (fictional) San Antonio State (SAS) Defenders have joined the NCAA FBS as an Independent for the 2013 Season. With former Notre Dame Athletic Director John Swarbrick at the helm, he has hired head coach Jeff Thickett. Thickett in turn brought in Jonathan White as the Defensive Coordinator and Cody Martin as the Offensive Coordinator. This blog is dedicated to following Cody Martin and his adventures in coaching in the NCAA.

A little background on Martin. He is an alumnus of the University of Texas. He played Quarterback for the Longhorns, mostly as a backup with spot starts here and there. His senior year was to be his year but before the season even started, Martin tore his MCL, PCL, ACL, NCL, BCL, and ZCCL - "basically every known AND every (previously) unknown knee ligaments man has" in the Longhorn's spring Orange-White game. He never played a down his senior year and instead of extending his career with a medical redshirt, Martin decided to hang up his cleats and grab a clipboard. Martin, after graduation, came on-board the Longhorn's coaching staff as a Quarterbacks coach, under offensive coordinator Jeff Thickett.

Fast forward several years, with Swarbrick coming on-board at San Antonio State, he decided to move them from the FCS to the FBS - NCAA football's equivalent of THE MAIN STAGE - he was looking for a head coach who knew Texas high schools and coaches and what it would take to get SAS competitive quickly. That's when he hired Thickett, a first-time headcoach but a very respected and very good offensive mind and an even better recruiter.

With defensive coordinator White being a well respected, known commodity running the defense, there was little concern on the defensive side of the ball. It was the offense though that needed the most work AND it was now under the control of first time offensive coordinator, Martin.

With the beginning of the season coming up quickly, the newest FBS football program has a lot of work ahead of them.
