NFL Draft - 2011, 7th Pick (SF)

Let me preface this by saying that I have been a lifelong 49ers fan ****** back to when the team was winning Super Bowl titles with Joe Montana. I don't consider myself a hardcore NFL fan by any means but I do like watching games on Sunday as well as try to keep up with what's going on and also play Madden every year to get my NFL fix.

With all that said, I honestly was excited to see how my beloved Niners would go in the draft. I was holding out hope that they would go with Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara, Nick Fairley or a QB like Blaine Gabbert or Jake Locker.

Imagine my shock with NFL commish Roger Goodell came to the podium and announced, "with the seventh pick, the San Francisco 49ers select Aldon Smith..."

The "experts" on ESPN were touting Smith as being a versatile player and a decent pass rusher, but I was hoping that we'd get some much needed help with our aging and inconsistent secondary or a QB that Jim Harbaugh would be able to develop that could improve the team as a whole.

I'm praying that Aldon Smith works out for the Niners and grows into a decent NFL player but, if he somehow doesn't, this pick will be one of the worst first round picks ever since Alex Smith went first overall in 2005.

He's obviously trying to lose next season to get Andrew Luck

@PioneerRaptor As much as I would love to see Luck on the 49ers next year, I don't think they have a chance to land him. But can you imagine the fallout and flack that Harbaugh would get if that was really the case? LOL.
