The deep ball...

Posted 09-15-2009 at 09:48 AM by shavane
Has anyone been able to consistently throw the deep ball on Madden 10? I don't mean just chucking the ball deep to Randy Moss because he seems to be about the only one that gets behind Cbs.

I play with the Eagles and I can't get behind anyone on fades or streaks. Curtis, Maclin, and Fraction Jackson all have 92 plus speed and I can't beat anyone deep. I know I don't have the best receivers but they should beat somebody right? Press coverage should be considered lock down coverage because they can't beat a press from anyone to save their lives.

At least on 09 they would get the initial delay when pressed, and release upfield and you had a small window to complete a pass deep, but on Madden 10 its press then running stride for stride no matter the CBs speed. Pressing is always a gamble because after the initial press or if you miss a clean press the Wr is generally open for at least a split second. Factor this in with the Madden 10 CBs spidey sense on where the WR and ball is going plus every DB having a 42 " verticals and the deep passing game is not an option for me.

I've tried lobbing the ball deep, drilling it, and timing it by releasing it when dropping back. Can anyone help me with this or offer any suggestions?

You're not the only one. I've had problems and not just in Madden, but in NCAA as well. It sure seems like the CPU can get quite a few deep balls, but for me I probably get 1 out of every 20.
I definitely know what you mean when these DBs have the amazing skills to anticipate every pass and rocket jump to make a play. I really dont have any advice, as I"m in the same boat as you, idk just practice.

While recently trying to play through all the Madden Moments, I've actually just really starting to see how hard it is to get behind a CB, even the likes of a Randy Moss. I noticed how sometimes, he even looked to not be running fast on a streak then sometimes, he'd take off like a mad man after an initial jam. It's hard to tell, though, with different factors that can affect a streak, fade, go route, whatever. DeSean Jackson, on the other hand, looks like a speed demon on every play but, again, it all comes down to the jam at the line yet he seems to get his jets on consistently, beating the CB. It's just that damn safety that doesn't bite on play actions, as well as other players, that annoy me more, especially when they've been setup with a lot of running. Ian and co still have some work to do with getting the AI on point.

I can't speak for Madden 10 but in NCAA I use the d-pad to lead the WR and it seems to help. I like that better than the analog stick. I usually try to lead the WR deep to the outside shoulder but I can certainly understand the frustration.

It doesn't matter what the CBs rating is if you press my eagle WRs the play is shut down. It takes my WRs 2 seconds to get off the ball then regardless or rtg the CB is stride for stride with my WRs its now been 4 or 5 seconds and I'm either sacked or forced to dump it off in the flats which are always open.
