The mess that we call Madden

Posted 04-27-2010 at 12:14 AM by TooSmart
I never thought that i will become so desperate for a good football game that it will make me write blogs about it. I just spent the last 3 hours playing All-pro football 2k8 and i still can't understand how a game from 3 years ago is light years ahead of Madden 10 and from the looks of it Madden 11. The reason why my cries are addressed towards Madden is because they are the ones that robbed us by buying out the NFL license. For once instead of upgrading lighting and adding quicker, deeper whatever, spend time on GAMEPLAY, there is no reason why we the fans shouldnt have a next gen football title. Scratch the entire engine and begin from scratch. Hire some developers from 2k, they might teach you a thing or two. Better yet, hire apexisfree from youtube, who clearly has more knowledge about gameplay than the entire ea sports empire....hey apexisfree im a huge fan by the way. Whatever you do, stop recycling your sorry game and making money on dumb kids that think they are getting their moneys worth when they purchase this sorry excuse of a game.

'fraid i must politely disagree , i play maddden every year & thoroughly enjoy it . however , having said that , a little competition is healthy & NFL would be wise not to give exclusive rights to madden ( sorry , ea , but maybe that could get you back in baseball market )

TooSmart - I'm in the same boat as you. Madden has never felt next gen and plays basically the same as it did on a ps2. It still is almost jawdropping at times how many things 2k football nailed like you said 3 and even 5 years ago with 2k5. Madden is still rigid, pre-determined, and poorly executed. With the way technology is today this shouldn't even be a topic of conversation...Madden should be far superior to 2k. I would be ashamed if I was EA and my game was being compared to a game 3 and 5 years ago.

If your looking for a alternative check out Backbreaker, a game that features realistic physics and gameplay. It may not be perfect because it does lack things like injuries and the NFl liscense but everything else I've seen from it looks Next gen.

shavane - I keep hearing people say that Backbreaker has realistic physics, but when I look at it I see physics that are like madden close but not quite there yet. I think madden has some of the tackle animations right for an average play (gang tackles and linemen making tackles-sometimes) and I think backbreaker has the suprise factor that we see in some tackles right (the guys body goes in an unexpected direction). If we can get a good blend of both I would be happy. I feel like madden is to tame or restricted with tackle animations and when you do get a suprise type of his it looks completely fake and way over the top. This is something backbreaker does well but then again I feel these types of hits are rare occurances but from what I have seen from backbreaker, it might be the norm (which is unrealistic).

TooSmart- I think your being over the top with your dismay for madden. Madden 10 is the only madden I have played on a consistent basis for years. This was the best football game I have played in years. All Pro was a horrible game, but I do admit it had some good things about it but overall the game was horrible. I think your disappointment of certain things not being included is whats causing your dismay and I have felt the same in the past about madden and ncaa football. There are a ton things I felt should have been kept in the game or added to these games and haven't seen any of it fully happen yet. I still have hope for the madden and ncaa because of how they developers have been listening to fans of these types of sites.
