Boxing Controversy of the Year: Agbeko vs Mares

  • 20+ low blows by Mares, not a single point deducted
  • As Agbeko is closing the gap in the 11th, he's hit with a NASTY low blow, knocking him to the canvas
  • Everyone sighs a sigh of relief as referee, Russell Mora breaks the action to take a point away from Mares FINALLY...
  • ...BUT WAIT!!!! Mora isn't taking a point, he's starting the count for a knockdown!!!!

The fight ended up going to a decision, with Agbeko losing by a margin that would have easily been erased with proper officiating.

If any of you have seen this fight, you'll know it's clearly the worst officiated fight in YEARS.

This was a complete disgrace and another black eye for boxing. Even more insulting was the refs post fight comments.

Disgusted

Also that first knockdown wasn't even a knockdown.

Nope. It was a slip, but realistically, that COULD have gone either way.

True , but that's just another possible point taken away from Agbeko. Russel Mora needs to be suspended and investigated.

Here's video of the post-fight interview with Jim Gray -

4:55 mark is the start of the interview.

Jim Gray was going hard on him I was crackin up. I couldn't believe this ref didn't believe the punch after the replay. This is why boxing is falling the way it is. Judging and refs are killing this sport also lack of depth at heavyweight division.
