10/29 vs. Georgia Tech

#18 Clemson dominates Georgia Tech at home to stay in thick of title race
Clemson Football News

The 18th-ranked Clemson Tigers shook off last week's loss in a big way, using a dominating balanced attack on offense and some stifling defense to cruise past the visiting Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 48-14. Clemson broke open a close battle with 24 third-quarter points and held Georgia Tech scoreless in the 2nd half to win.

"This is the one we needed," Coach Borland said. "The loss last week sucked, but we weren't out of the race. This win puts us right back into the mix, and we couldn't ask for a better spot."

The win now puts the Tigers one game behind Florida State for the Atlantic Division crown, with their highly-anticipated matchup coming soon. If Clemson can find a way to upset the 3rd-ranked Seminoles, it would give them the Atlantic Division title and send them to the ACC Championship.

"This win helped us get back on track," Coach Borland said. "We got dazed last week by Virginia Tech but now we have the momentum rolling in our favor again. I can't wait!"

Junior QB Terence McDonald threw for 232 yards and 2 TDs and Clemson got 3 TDs on the ground to highlight a sound offensive attack. Sophomore RB Ellis Weaver bounced back from a poor performance last week to rush for 132 yards and a TD. Senior QB Casey Owens helped out in a big way, rushing for 50 yards on only 3 carries and scoring twice.

The Tiger defense held Georgia Tech to only 189 total yards, despite giving up 102 yards rushing and 2 TDs to RB Richard Harwell. Clemson recorded 4 sacks, picked off 3 passes and held the Yellow Jackets to only 64 yards passing. MLB J.R. Burrell had a huge game, recording a sack and returning a 1st-quarter interception 55 yards for a TD.

In the injury department, the Tigers lost another defensive player. Dime back CB Ryan McDonald tore a shoulder muscle and will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Clemson has off next week but will have plenty of time to prepare for their matchup with Florida State. The Tigers travel to Tallahassee for the biggest game of the year.

Turnovers doom #12 Clemson's division title shot in loss to #3 Florida State
Clemson Football News

The 3rd-ranked Florida State Seminoles converted 4 third-quarter turnovers from #12 Clemson into 24 unanswered points to clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title, 31-20. The 12th-ranked Tigers led 14-7 at the half, but turnovers on 4 straight drives gave the Seminoles all the advantage they needed to keep themselves undefeated and focused on more than the ACC title.

"We had them," Coach Borland said. "Up at the half, but all it takes is one play to swing the momentum. As it turned out, 4 bad plays will ruin more than just the game."

Clemson could have stolen the Atlantic Division title from the Seminoles with a victory, but they instead suffer their 2nd loss of the season and will not be playing in the ACC Championship.

"It's obvious we can compete, but we're just not there yet," Coach Borland said. "We have a strong team and a good foundation for the future, but this season is just not the icing on the cake yet."

Junior QB Terence McDonald threw for 366 yards and 3 TDs on 25-of-44 passing, but his 3 interceptions proved to be very costly. Sophomore RB Ellis Weaver had an awesome 1st half but was shut down in the 2nd half. Weaver ran for 60 yards and caught a 58-yard TD in the 1st half, but finished with only 61 yards rushing for the game and didn't catch another pass.

For Florida State, QB T.J. Cutler threw for 168 yards and 2 TDs and got a lot of help from the running game. FB Scott Henry ran for 91 yards and scored on the 1st play of the game, and RB Tyler Butler added 66 yards and put the game away with a 27-yard TD scamper.

The Seminole defense harrassed the Clemson offense, holding them to only 46 yards rushing, recording 7 sacks and forcing 5 turnovers.

Clemson finishes their ACC schedule but still has two non-conference matchups remaining. The Tigers hit the road to take on Pittsburgh next week. Coach Borland has never faced the Panthers.

#16 Clemson blows out Pittsburgh on road
Clemson Football News

This is a good way to recover.

The 16th-ranked Clemson Tigers bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to #3 Florida State in a big way, dominating the host Pittsburgh Panthers on both sides of the ball en route to a 63-0 rout. The Tiger offense mixed the run and pass well to the tune of 451 total yards, senior WR Jeremy Holmes returned the opening kickoff for a TD and the Clemson defense gave Coach Borland his 1st career shutout.

The game got off to a quick start, as Holmes took the game's opening kick and sliced through the Panther coverage team for a 90-yard return score. It didn't take long for Clemson to score again, as they put up 28 points in the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter was almost as bad for Pittsburgh as the 1st, as the Tigers posted 21 more points and went into halftime up 49-0. In the 2nd half, junior QB Terence McDonald threw his 4th TD pass of the day and senior QB Casey Owens threw his 1st TD of the season to account for the final score.

McDonald had an awesome day to highlight the Tiger offense, throwing for 232 yards and 4 TDs on a very efficient 14-of-16 passing. Holmes was a thorn in the passing game too, totaling a game-high 94 yards and 2 TD catches.

Clemson also pounded Pittsburgh on the ground, totaling 217 yards as a team. Sophmore RB Ellis Weaver was the leader, piling up 126 yards and 2 TDs. Junior RB Antoine Faga added 45 yards and scored Clemson's 1st offensive TD.

The Tiger defense was ferocious today, holding the Panthers to only 109 total yards and 6 first downs. Clemson also recorded 5 sacks and picked off 3 passes.

The 16th-ranked Tigers return home next week to close out the regular season. Clemson will honor their senior players for Senior Day and take on Palmetto State rival South Carolina. Coach Borland has never faced the Gamecocks.

#14 Clemson pulls in DT recruit
Clemson Football News

The 14th-ranked Clemson Tigers pulled in their 6th in-season commit this week as they prepare for rival South Carolina.

DT Ryan Cody, a 4-star lineman out of Florida, will join the Tiger defensive line next fall. Cody is a mean interior force that should help replace a few graduating seniors.

Cody joins fellow recruit DE Matt Brown on the line, as well as WR Tim Johnson, CB Rasheed Butler, QB Barrett Harrison and offensive tackle Trevor Johnson as in-season recruits.

Clemson will welcome the Gamecocks for Senior Day this weekend.
