Brandon Marshall coming to Oakland

The trade was announced on tuesday and was for undisclosed draft picks. Marshall is expected to join the team on Wednesday for practice and according to Coach Jones is expected to start on Sunday's game against the Saints.

"Yeah, he's gonna start," said the coach, "How do you not start Brandon Marshall?"

Marshall in a news conference at the Oakland facility said "I'm happy to be with a team that seems to actually appreciate my talents!"

Things were all smiles again in Raider Nation as the addition of Brandon Marshall provided a much-needed spark for the Oakland Raiders. Marshall had 5 catches for 72 yards and one touchdown in the win.

Things were very quiet in the Saints locker room. "They were tough," said running back Reggie Bush after the loss, "we made too many mistakes and they took full advantage. They're a tough, tough team."

After the game, it was announced that the team signed a contract extension for linebacker Jarret Johnson.

The day started out for the Raiders badly, as Chad Pennington severely pulled his hamstring during pre-game warmups. As Jamarcus Russel was inactive for the game, the rookie QB, 4th round Draft pick Josh Johnson got his first NFL start, and made Al Davis and Coach Biff Jones look like a genius. Throwing for 178 yards, 2 TD's, no interceptions, and rushing for 26 yards on 4 carries, Johnson showed his potential. The game was neck and neck until the 4th Quarter, when an early-quarter interception return for a TD by Nnamdi Asomugha tied the game up. 2 more TD's, a 1 yard plunge and a surprise 36 yard TD pass (both scores by Ray Rice) put the game out of reach for the Jets. Ray Rice had a career day. If they can keep this up, they can be contenders!

"I didn't expect to get to play this early," said rookie QB Josh Johnson, "but I was ready. You can't play on an NFL team unless you prepare like you're starting." When asked if Johnson would be the starting QB for next week when they travel to meet Baltimore, Coach Biff Jones just smiled. "We'll have to see how Chad is doing," he said, "but a performance like that is hard to pass up!"

On tuesday, Nnamdi Asomugha was named the Defensive Player of the Week

During the week, several players were signed to contract extensions.
Mark Wilson - 4 year extension
Jonathan Babineaux - 2 year extension
Renaldo Forrest - 3 year extension
Bryant Johnson - 2 year extension
David Vobora - 2 year extension

Next game: Raider Nation descends on the 2-4 Baltimore Ravens.

Jamarcus Russell almost led a comeback, but then Pennington is back in the next week? Just wondering why that happened? This is looking good, BTW.

Re: Who's afraid of the Oakland Raiders? (HC09)

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it.

The reason I put Pennington back in is because JaMarcus Russell was actually inactive that next week due to an injury sustained in practice. I was actually gonna start him, but go figure!

The Raiders came into Baltimore ready to play, and play they did. Oakland had to fight for every yard they got, but in the end, they fell short. "I just didn't play well," said rookie QB Josh Johnson,"they're a great football team, and we just didn't get it done."

Hall of fame linebacker Ray Lewis had an interception in this game. "We brought it to 'em," said Lewis, "they're a tough team, but we kept fightin' 'till then end."

The only real move the Raiders made was that on Monday they signed TE Mike Peterson to a contract extension.

Re: Raiders lose close game in Baltimore

What are your position philosophies? Also, how did you spend your initial points when you first created your coach? I always went for special skills, but recently I've tried developing the regular skills first.

Re: Who's afraid of the Oakland Raiders? (HC09)

Will have to look for the specific position philosophies. As far as points, I usually put equal parts into "performance" and "chemistry", putting the rest into special skills "ambition" and the three playbook knowledge skills.

edit: Sorry, forgot to do it this time; will try to remember for next time
