Peyton Manning and Tom Brady would struggle in schemes like the one the Falcons had with Vick with rollouts, QB draws, designed runs for the QB, etc because they aren't mobile QB's. Does that mean Manning and Brady aren't the best QB's in the NFL?
I'm not saying everyone has to play in the same scheme, but SOMEONE,SOMEWHERE can win with you if you are as good as advertised in my opinion. Take a guy like Ryan Leaf, Gino Torretta, Ron Dayne, Reggie Bush. Not effective as everyone thought. No matter the system they don't live up to the billing. Manning and Brady sure they may not be at their best in other systems but you still choose them over anyone else. Brady was a 7th rounder wasn't he? Clearly the heisman doesn't make you the best football player in the land.

But the pro game is still different than the college game. Offenses like the option, run and shoot, etc. work in college but didn't in the NFL. I don't see why guys who do well in offenses like that should be penalized because their skills for that offense don't work as well for the NFL.

Bush hasn't lived up to the billing, but it's really unfair to lump him in with the other guys. He's still a better than average NFL player.

It makes you the best college player. What happens after that should be irrelevant. It's like saying a 7 year old little leaguer didn't deserve to be MVP that year because another kid on the team, who wasn't as good at age 7, went on to have a pro career. Brady didn't dominate at the college level, but he's been great in the NFL. It happens all the time.

These are all great points and I agree with you mostly. But I think if you're going to be crowned the best in the land you should be able to suceed at any level. Somewhere in some system. It can't be just about systems and schemes because at some point you have to have guys make plays. I think an athlete can make his mark anytime anywhere if he's truly good. Look at Pat White. No one took him seriously as a Qb until the combine. Now teams are willing to take a chance. It remains to be seen as to weather or not his career as a Qb will pan out. But he wants it and hes an athlete and regardless of scheme, teams are going to look at him at Qb.
And I'm sorry but I have to say Reggie Bush is the single most overrated player since....I don't know when.I wish him all the luck in the world but above average isn't good enough for the guy who's supposed to be the next Gale Sayers. Bottom of his draft class as a back. Now the saints are looking for a fulltime back. I know he catches 100 balls every year, but when you catch that many you oughta have more than 700 yards. Anyway I guess that's another thread....
