Right but most of those draft picks were freshmen or sophomores that year. Brian Cushing in 2005 was not the same Brian Cushing of 2008 for example. Keith Rivers in 2005 was not the same Keith Rivers he was in 2007. Cushing and Maluauga weren't even starters until injuries forced them in to playing time. Sedrick Ellis wasn't a starter until he was forced to play.

There was no comparison between the two teams. But if you'd like to continue to beat your chest over that game feel free.

maybe so, but the facts are that if you break down the rosters, the '04 D had the same amount of underclassmen starting as the '05 team...and the 05 D had more NFL draft picks, especially 1st and 2nd rounders

again, I agree that the '04 defense was better, especially because of Shawn Cody...however, the '05 D was pretty stacked.

The 05 defense was stacked with future stars. But they were not the same players they would be in later seasons. Unfortunately the offense took a step back and they never returned to the title game.

Biggest losses imo, from 2004 to 2005 was Cody like you mentioned. But they also lost Mike Patterson who was dominant and then of course Lofa Tatupu. Those two with Patterson were huge. And of course Eric Wright (who would transfer to UNLV) he left for off the field issues.

I think you forget that in college football, almost does count.

"2005 Texas almost lost to Texas A&M and Ohio State. For that Reason I would rank 2008 Texas better than the 2005 team. Heck, 2005 Texas almost lost to USC. It's obvious they suck.

What about the LSU team that actually lost TWO games and won the title. What about Florida last year?

This is kind of funny.... "
Your logic is off. You just don't get it. We are talking about Lindy's top 5 all decade teams. LSU, Florida, Texas 2008, have nothing to do with this discussion.

Not in this context it doesn't.. And again, did you watch the Stanford and Oregon St games? You do realize what happened in those games right?

you well know that Carroll always plays underclassmen. SC is going to have a lot of underclassmen playing on D every season. Again, '04 had the same amount of underclassmen playing as the '05 team.

I agree that the '04 defense was better, but the '05 defense was loaded. When it comes to overall team, it's probably a push imo. The '05 SC offense was probably the most stacked of all time. Again, if SC would have won that heavyweight championship fight, it would have been their 35th straight victory (longest streak in modern CFB history), and the '05 team probably would have gone down as "the best of all time", not the '04 team

I didn't watch those games specifically but I know what happened.

So to get this straight. You are criticizing the 04 team for the fashion in which they won 2 or 3 games, but you didn't actually watch those games?

Makes perfect sense.
