Era of scrambling QBs, becoming Pro players beacuse of the wildcat

More and more NFL teams are buying into the wildcat formation, Michael Vick's addition to the Philadelphia Eagles was a huge story and if he performs well in this setup do you think we will see more and more of this type of QB from college take a bigger role in the NFL?

No

The Wildcat will likely be phased out within a year or two.

Vick is the only player I see with a real chance at long term success (assuming he doesn't play well enough to become the starter somewhere) since his running is obviously phenomenal and his passing, while below average for a starting quarterback, is far above running back or mid-low round draft pick level scrambling QB.

I look at it this way: if you're a collegiate quarterback that doesn't project as a pro quarterback, but you're a phenomenal athlete and have a great work ethic, teams will find a way to use you.

Off the top of my head, NFL WRs Hines Ward, Antwan Randle El, and Patrick Crayton were all QBs in college; obviously Ward is head-and-shoulders above the other two, but ARE and Crayton have done alright for themselves IMO.

I'm looking at guys like Dennis Dixon who lit up college football, and with the wildcat now prominent in the NFL would have he been drafted in rounds 3 - 4 rather than 5 - 7?

i'm really not sure how far this wildcat will go. This year will be a make or break year for it. Mike Vick's success could be a direct result in the oppurtunities of D.Dixon, P.White and who else knows...

I mean of course theres traditional teams that will probably never go tto the wildcat ex: Steelers, Giants

The Steelers used one or two plays from it last year (one in the Superbowl even I think).

I wonder if the fuys in the '60's were talking about the shotgun formation such as we are the wildcat now.
I am a firm believer that the wildcat formation is one that will be successful enough that in 2-3 years time every NFL team will have some form of it in their playbook.

To be fair, Randel El is the only one of those primarily known as a quarterback during his career. Both Ward and Crayton were primarily used as receivers.
