I know keeping assistants there can be a problem due to the state's laws about how much money they can be paid. He said when he came over that he was a west coast guy and that was the job that was open when Riley left unexpectedly. Sure it's a downgrade, but if he was unhappy at Wisconsin then I get it that he thought Oregon State was a place he could be happy. But losing is not fun and I think he probable feels that there is no end in sight to the losing.

He's worked for 3 different AD's here. The money for an upgrade to the facilities is frozen and it's "only" a 1M upgrade, which by most school's standards isn't even significant enough to make a note of. Corvallis is a village, surpassed only by Pullman. The school schedules like a midmajor that needs paycheck games. The facilities and stadium are near the bottom of the conference in every aspect and the school no longer plays a style of football that differentiates it from the other schools in the conference. There are no advantages and I think that's why he merely accepted that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
He did later confirm that this was one of the major issues he had there.

So, here's some text messages Gary Andersen sent to a beat writer...

http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/ore...s_exit_ro.html

Does he sound like he's "all there" to you guys? Seems like something mental going on (exhaustion, depression, or other). Something about all his !!! and him talking about "not dying" doing this comes off as a red flag imo.

He sounds like a coach to me. These guys aren't sane to begin with the way they put in hours and have to put up with so much stress. Sounds like he is just tired of this ****.

Reading about the NCAA's UNC decision, they're a joke.

Michigan State's LJ Scott could be the dumbest player in the country.

He was arrested recently and charged with driving without a valid license for the 7th time in a year.

Wow. Just massively SMH to that... I don’t even know how that’s possible either. I know people who have went like a year at least with a suspended license and never got caught.

Maybe he fumbled his license away as he was getting in his car?

Spoiler
