PS3 and HDTV

I was wondering what the fuss about is with the PS3 and HDTV. Right now I have just a basic 26"ws CRT hdtv. It only does 1080i... The LCD 37" I am looking for my tv I only see 1080i at the most. Does the ps3 upconvert? What is everyone talking about. I am now leaning towards a PS3 however I want to know the issues people are having.. Thanks,

The way I understand it, if a game is in 720p it won't change it to 1080i, it will downgrade the signal to 480p if your tv doesn't support 720p.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head.

If the game is 720p or 1080p only, it'll show up 480p on your tv. If it supports 1080i, then you're fine. Blu Ray supports 1080i, so you'll be able to watch movies ok.

With the March update, supposedly this is going to be fixed though.

You would think all the time that Sony had to debut this thing that obvious stuff like that wouldn't be overlooked. Unbelievable. This and the shipping problems, the graphic card screw up and lack of 1st party games, it's almost like they want this thing to fail to give them an excuse not to do a PS4.

Sooooo ..

I have 720p and 1080i (though not 1080p). This is a non-issue for me?

Beyond3d, has an article on their front page, Unveiling the PS3 scaler apparently, the PS3 does have a scaler that they just sent out updated SKD's to take advantage of it. Pretty soon the scaling thing will be a non issue.

Yea I have no idea what Sony was doing, but it as said above it apparently DOES have a scaler that they didn't let developers know about. WTH were they trying to pull?
