Avoid "Major League Baseball" on the NES...ugh, I remember liking that as a kid, but playing it a year or so ago and I find out the game was pretty much trash

Re: NES/SNES Sports games recommendations

On the SNES, I loved Hardball III by Accolade. The game had licensed players but not the teams so you had Boston, Anaheim, Cincinnati, etc. The divisions and leagues were spot on. Only no team names. But the user could edit the logo and edit the players. For a game that was released in 1993, it was way ahead of its time.

Also Madden NFL '96, which one of the first franchise modes I can remember. The user could create a player (name, height, weight), assign a position and run him through several training camp drills which would determine his skill levels. The franchise mode was great fun, plus there were codes for old time teams.

I remember running for 1000 yards in a game with a super running back from that training camp create a player thing.

NES Open, World Cup, Baseball Stars, Techmo Bowl, and RBI Baseball for the NES.

Some think Baseball Stars II was better than the first one, and they did tweak it a bit for the better, but some of the best features were eliminated like the ability to rename players.

I loved that game! The "powers" are still fond memories.
