need help with ps2 games on ps3

My nephews have an 80gb ps3 and we're trying to play ps2 games on it. They seem to play just fine but look terrible. I'm talking jaggies everywhere. Is there something I need to do like adjust the resolution or something?

If you are playing on an HDTV, scale the PS3 resolution down to 480 in the display options, set the display ration for 16:9 (when it asks), and turn smoothing on by hitting the middle button on your controller once the game starts.

Does anyone have experience of playing PS2 games (on an actual PS2 system) on an HDTV ?

I'm assuming jaggies would appear on here as well?
