If this so-called SKU does offer BD Playback HD Audio playback needs to be an option also. Either outputted by the console, or decoded by the console (ala the PS3)

Somewhat related question:

If I have a Premium 360 that was bought for $350, and I have the Best Buy replacement plan, could I turn it in when the Ultra comes out and pay the difference to get one?

Just curious. My guess is the Ultra would run around $500 - meaning that I could get an upgrade, PLUS a Blu-ray player, for just $150 extra, if BB would let me.

Hopefully not true, they need to quit releasing incremental upgrades and just focus on their next major console. Quit slowly building the 360 up, just put everything it lacks in the next version.

Anyway, I think price will be very intriguing for this system. Since it is being produced in China (Taiwan specifically), I think MS will be able to have very low manufacturing costs. If it can retail for less than the PS3, its going to put a big damper on PS3 sales. It's all about price- if MS can make this and keep the 360 prices down, they'll be in good shape.

my .02: As long as MS holds the developers to the lowest common denominator (core/arcade owners with no hard drive) its really pointless to make new upgrades to the system. Also, unless the "falcon" systems have improved the failure rate to a natural rate for electronics they need to focus on that. I don't know if that is or isn't the case since so many places still sell older 360s and my replacement that I got in December was still not a falcon.

I'm not thrilled with all these console releases after the initial two. I would have bought the "ultra" console if it were available at launch.
