MY PS3 ON WONT STAY ON. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I think the first thing I'm going to do when I get home is make a backup copy of all of my save files.

You could try putting your HDD in another friend's PS3 and seeing if it prompts you to reformat? I mean I'm not entirely sure why the HDD would have to be reformatted.

I agree, Im a little confused as to why you would have to reformat just because your putting it into a different PS3, dont they all run off the same format normally anyways? I guess, if true, the HDD is tied into each individual system somehow, weird though.

i wish i could but i dont think my friends would let me do that and if i go by what Sony says, if i take out thier HDD to put mines in then ill erase what they have and i dont want to do that to my friends.

im confused as well. why should u have re-format to use ur own HDD? especially to put it back into the very same system.

i wonder if ALTIMUS would know? he seems to know alot about ps3's.

You wouldn't be getting the same system back. I believe the reformating has something to do with the OS/XMB.

I have a suggestion of downloading a PS3 repair guide off of ebay. I know it might sound fishy but that's how I got my original XBOX. Was fun fixing it by myself. I think I'm going to do that with the 60 GB backwards compatible PS3 so I'll be able to play that backlog of games. Usually decent. Can't hurt except to be out of $10-15 and know your system better. If it's a part that you might need to replace also, you may be able to scoop that up off of ebay and replace it no problem. Just a thought.......
