360 not reading 20 gig hdd

i bought and new arcade model and the hdd is not showing up on the console. (bought the hdd on ebay new)
do i need to do something to the console so the hdd can be reconized?

if you bought the 360 brand new, the likely issue is with the HDD you bought off ebay.

^^^This! Any chance you could run by a friends house to see if the HDD works with theirs? If not, you could run by a game store and ask them if they could check to see if your HDD will work with one of their consoles that they have on demo. More than likely, you got a bad HDD from Ebay

I bought a brand new 360 several years ago and straight out of the box the 20gb HDD didn't work, wouldn't read on my 360 or any others. Had to return it for a replacement system.
