The Best way to improve PS3 online play

I know Sony said they will never make us pay to play games online but what if the give us the option. How about having 2 levels of online play, Free by Default and Paid with dedicated servers for better online experience for those hardcore online gamers. This doesn't change anything with for the free online games but it gives to option to play with other people who are will to pay for online play. Free people only play with free people and Paid plays with paid.

Yep ... Live is paid, and most of the games are p2p. You just pay for a service that allows you to connect to one another p2p. There is just as much lag or lack there of as I see on the PSN.

EA online has a bit more smoother experience overall, because they use their own dedicated servers to host their games. They are a rare breed with rare contract with MSFT to do this. They were never going to go on Live until MSFT bent allowed them to host their own servers instead of p2p (good business sense on MSFTs part, give up control or your competition will have online and you wont with EA games).

And even dedicated servers are not 100%, but are much better overall.

The online in this game is vastly improved. Like night and day over last year. Sorry others are not having the same luck. Sometimes your ISP's latency is an issue as well.

Well why cant Sony force these companies to use dedicated servers instead of p2p? If Xbox only use p2p why is the online play better?

EA does use it for the PS3 as well as the 360.

Until The Show is selling 1 million copies, I wouldn't hold my breath for them to spend money on dedicated servers.

Even NBA2K sells 2 million and 2K doesn't use dedicated for them. Ask all the lag complaints online there. But they are in a whole nother financial situation at this time.

All they can do is improve upon the experience as more tricks and technology opens up. And this year over last, it is MUCH better.

As for the second part, that is subjective. Multi-platform games seem to play similar across the board (i.e Madden, COD series). I seen no lag in first party games like Killzone 2, MAG (dedicated servers), GT5, Uncharted 2, Resistance series, you name it. Just as I seen none in Halo, Gears, Forza and PGR series.

Don't turn this thread into this versus that, or it will be closed. My experience with both has been the same. Not one better than the other. But people who pay for something will want to see that they are getting a better experience. The free PC still dominates the list, and even that has games with *gulp* lag.
