Microsoft working on cheaper slim 360- arcade v 2.0?

Microsoft has said that it is working on a second version of the new slim Xbox 360 that can be sold at a lower price point.

The new Xbox 360 was unveiled last night and will cost £199 / €249 when it launches in Europe on 16th July.

As well as a new design, it sports a removable internal 250GB hard disk as standard, and has integrated 80.211n Wi-Fi.

According to GameSpot, Microsoft said that a second Xbox 360 in the new form factor would be put together to replace the lower-price Arcade SKU, which currently retails for $200, as we know both the existing Xbox 360 Elite and Xbox 360 Arcade models will be reduced in price by $50 in the US, where the new 360 launches this week. The old models will then be discontinued once stock is cleared.

That is very very foolish of MS imo. I think with this relaunch or reboot of their product line, that they should place a 60gb or 120gb in the Arcade unit with wireless. Would it sound stupid to just place Wireless G in it and the N would be for the Elite system? They really need a HDD option in that Arcade at this point.

well I would like to see them do what the ps3 does, as the only difference between the different priced models is the HDD size.

Bk you have a good point there.....but the problem is that there is a $100 difference between the 360 sku's then vs. just the $50 that the PS3's are at.

Yeah, this was known since both Amazon and Gamestop listed bundles for 360 and Arcade. From what I've understood from people in the know, the "Arcade" will have no Wi-Fi and a 60GB HDD. And will be 199.

Should hit shelves in September.

The HDD is good, and it is about time they started moving this direction. I guess this will allow them to still sell the wifi adapters.
