Just purchased a ps3 from a friend.. have a few questions

I saw you said you only paid $50 for it. KEEP IT! If it's an original 60gig, 20gig, or the 80gig from Launch you can play PS2 games on it - IF - that's something you want to do. Also, if you have one of those systems (just look at the serial number and model number on the back and then do a search with google, it will tell you what it is) DO NOT TRADE IT IN to gamestop or some other company. Why? Ebay it or put it on Craig's List. They are going from $250-300 system only. You won't get even half that from Gamestop.


I've got a launch unit 60gig that has had about 10hrs per week of use. I've not had any issues. I will use a can of compressed air to blow it out from time to time, but I do that with my 360 and PC because my house is dusty. That past year it runs a little louder, but that's because the main fan comes on sooner than it used too. Do I expect that it will go YLOD? Maybe, but that's not stopped me from enjoying the system and sometimes having 5-6hr long sessions.

Yup, for $50 there's no reason not to hang onto it. And if it was only played twice, it sounds like you got a heck of a deal there bud.

Yup. I have a launch 20GB and mine still runs just fine. Play it pretty much every day.

I have both versions in my house, one is my roommates and it runs great still from launch date and we abused that thing by watching movies and games.

For $50 that's a steal, keep it till it dies, not worth trading it in.

ANSWERED: I went to Gamestop and they took back my "YLOD'd or Brick'd" 60gig Original Playstation 3...they bought it back for store credit (they actually commended me for being totally honest with them, because they said people lie to them all the time - if they fix it fine, but I just hope they don't *temporarily* fix it, sell it to some lone sole where it breaks again - ah well, it's in their hands now.
