How long will PS3 Last?

Next XBOX and Playstation consoles could be coming out by the end of this year. If that's the case....How long do people think PS3 games will last?

By that, I mean like the releases on them.

Look at PS2. They had MLB The Show until MLB11(PS3 first started at MLB07) so that's 5 years that PS2 had MLB once PS3 was out. NBA went until 2k12(PS3 started at 2k7), so that's 6 years of NBA games on PS2 and PS3.


So do people see PS3 lasting just as long? Meaning when something like MLB18 comes out, could we still be seeing that released on PS3 and PS4? And would the quality be basically the same(if not better) than PS3 games of today, or could quality just decrease alot since companies would be focusing on PS4 and stuff.

I was surprised how long PS2 lasted, I def think PS3 will go longer.

They just recently stopped making PS2s. Pretty crazy how long it lasted.

I'd say 3 years. But then again, once the ps3s are as cheaply made as the ps2s were, maximizing profit for Sony, then why not. For developers, probably depends on how expensive it is to develop on both the ps4 and ps3. If its an easy port, you'll prob see game developers keep it alive.

Which is sorta interesting when you think about it. Cause PS3 can support 720p quality games, yet PS2 obviously didn't(since it was made during times of CRT TVs) and it lasted this long.

With PS3 having things like blu ray and HD quality gaming, I'd actually hope it does last along time.

i have high doubts that the next system will be released in 2013...
You know how they always back up release dates for one reason or another.
I could see sometime in the fall of 2014 tho
PS3 still has a lot of 3D capabilities that haven't been touched and with Vita being about a year old, still plenty of room to develop cross-play and prepare for the next gen at home console.
I almost forgot to mention that it is still an adequate web browser and bluray player. why upgrade when there is so much potential to be tapped?

basically, ps3 has a minimum of 2 years before the "ps4"

Im not sure the same can be said for xbox

I think it depends completely on their strategy with the PS4. Should be able to count on a couple more years, They even have a number of big 1st party titles coming out this year, unlike Microsoft's announced 1st party titles for 2013.

Architecture changing, so making a PS3 + PS4 game is probably going to be a lot of work. Continuing previous gen franchises like the sports titles wouldn't seem that unlikely though for as long as they're profitable.
