lhslancers, explain how I can get things moved over with a thumb drive? What do link it with if I can't turn on the PS3?
The trick is to do this BEFORE the machine dies on ya.

Well all my saves were supposed to upload to the cloud, but I don't see LBP2 on there. Maybe that one saves on the game install or something, or I never opted for automatic uploads with that game or something.

Re: My PS3 has finally died

What is the price for sending in a PS3 for repair? It used to be $150, but I'm reading online and it says they'll charge $50 for you to ship your unit. Does that mean that's the cost of repair as well?

My original fattie died so I gave it to a guy I work with. He knew a guy in Brooklyn who repaired it for like $50 but I think he got a 90 day warranty on it.
I would get the cheapest new console I could find and store everything on USB sticks.

Well mine is a YLOD remember, and I have the majority of my game saves.

I was thinking of splurging on the $199 PlayStation 3 with The Last of Us and Batman: Arkham Origins. I would have to sell them both to get below the $150 mark (already own TLOU and for the time being have no eagerness to play B:AO), so I think it would be worth it if repairs are still $150. Plus, that would mean I'm getting a Super Slim out of it, and I think that one would be lasting for a while given that it's brand new and not a refurb. Don't I get another controller out of it as well?

It wouldn't make sense for it to still cost that much, but $50 seemed a little on the short end as well if that's coming directly from Sony.

I think the bundled games are digital downloads and can't be sold. So I am told anyway.

Are you aware of what the YLOD fix is? If it's just dust, I'm fine with opening 'er up.

I would just prefer I get my data back if my HDD was unaffected from this, really. I might want to send it in with the original HDD if I still have it.
