Diamond Dynasty does batting averages influence game performance?

In some older baseball games, the batting/slugging average influenced stats through their career. Does that happen in MLB the Show? Or if I strike out a thousand times in a row it will have no effect on the player because it only uses stats on the card and player skill?

Also in diamond dynasty do you get a new card regardless of whether you win or lose? I'm afraid of upping the difficulty past rookie or veteran because I suck at this and don't want to lose time in my quest for better players. Thanks!
