Hog-tied: SC's defense clamps down on Arkansas in 2006 opener

FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Okay, so it wasn't exactly like Matt Leinart's debut at Auburn three years ago.

In fact, Mark Sanchez struggled so much that Pete Carroll went with John David Booty in the second half.

Booty was more consistent, USC ate up the clock in the 2nd half, and the defense never relented, propelling the Trojans to a 28-7 win in Fayetteville over Arkansas in the 2006 opener for both teams.

"You can't fault Mark too much; the crowd was really into the game, and they rattled him a bit...he's only a redshirt freshman, so that should be expected," SC coach Pete Carroll said on the field moments after the game concluded.

Sanchez was 7-19 for 135 yards with one TD and two interceptions. Booty was a more stable 7-13 for 78 yards and a TD.

But it was Lawrence Jackson and Dallas Sartz that set the tone for the entire game. On Arkansas's second drive of the game, Jackson exploded off the edge, while Sartz blitzed behind him. Jackson crushed Arkansas QB Casey Dick just as he threw the ball. The result: The ball literally fell into Sartz's hands, and 58 yards later, SC led 7-0.

Jackson had only one registered sack, but his pressure forced another bad throw in the third quarter that was intercepted by Sartz. That set up a Chauncey Washington touchdown that put the Trojans up 21-7.

Darren McFadden was the only bright spot for the Razorbacks' offense, rushing for 114 yards on 31 carries. He scored Arkansas's only touchdown.

The Trojans have next week off, giving them time to pick a starting QB for their home opener against Nebraska.

Damn, very in-depth..

Atleast you didn't hold McFadden to 0 yards like Husker.

Re: USC Trojans (NCAA Football 07)

Week 2 Preview
The echoes wake up as Notre Dame hosts Penn State; all the eyes of Texas are on Austin as #1 Ohio State visits

Games of the Week

#1 Ohio State @ # 2 Texas

This image has been burned into the minds of Ohio State fans for the past year. Vince Young's clutch touchdown pass to Limas Sweed provided the winning margin for Texas as they beat the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe 25-22, using it as a landmark victory that propelled them to an unbeaten national championship season. Now, without Vince Young, the pressure will be on the Texas defense to contain Troy Smith and Ted Ginn as the national championship picture will begin to be shaped early on.

#12 Penn State @ #3 Notre Dame

Penn State and Notre Dame - two of the most traditional powers in college football history. Last year's resurgence of the two powers has added a BIG spark to this matchup. Brady Quinn and the Irish must pass a bunch of tests and landmines this season to reach their goal of a national title - Paul Posluszny and Penn State is their first landmine.
