CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

The last threads about this directly (at least according to the search and the pre-post warning) are from a decade ago. So this is a place to share your goofy/wacky/classic/old-school conference realignment ideas.

Here are two of mine.

Geographic
All conferences are no divisions, 9-game conference schedule
ACC (South Carolina-Georgia-Florida 15) (Orlando)
Clemson, Coastal Carolina, FIU, Florida, FAU, FSU, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Miami, South Carolina, UCF, USF
American (Midwest, northeast corridor) (Metlife)
Army, BC, Buffalo, UConn, Illinois, Minnesota, NIU, Northwestern, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, UMASS, Wisconsin

Big-12 (Texas) (AT&T in Dallas)
Baylor, Houston, NT, Rice, SHSU, SMU, TCU, Texas, A&M, TxSt, TTU, UTEP, UTSA

Big Ten (Michigan-Ohio) (Ford Field)
Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, CMU, Cincinnati, EMU, Miami U, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio, Ohio State, Toledo, WMU

CUSA (Central-US) (Lucas Oil)
Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Tulsa

MAC (Mid-Atlantic) (EverBank)
App State, Charlotte, Duke, ECU, JMU, Kent State, Liberty, Maryland, Navy, NC State, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Virginia, VT, Wake

MWC (Mountain West) (Allegiant)
Air Force, AZ, ASU, Boise, BYU, Colorado, CSU, Reno, UNM, NMSU, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Wyoming

Pac-12 (Pacific 12) (Sofi)
California, Fresno State, Hawai’I, Oregon, Oregon State, SDSU, SJSU, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State, Stanford

SEC (La-Miss-Bama)
Alabama, Auburn, Jax State, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, USA, Southern Mississippi, Troy, Tulane, UAB, ULM

SBC (Ozarks-Appalachia)
Arkansas, Ark State, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Memphis, MTSU, Tennessee, Vandy, WVU, WKU

...

I also have a promotion-relegation pyramid idea but I haven't figured out all teh teams for it yet.

Top Conference - Big 10 (10 teams)
Next tier - SEC, ACC (11 teams each)
Third tier - Big XII, Pac-12, AAC (12 teams each)

Fourth tier - CUSA, SBC, MAC, MWC (13 teams each)
14 Indies
Rules: bottom two teams in Big 10 drop to the 22-team second division; conference champs from each go up; bottom three schools in SEC/ACC drop to Big XII, pac-12, AAC, champions from B12/P12/AAC go up; last place team in each conference and the next worst record drop to CUSA, SBC, MAC, MWC, their champions go up; last place team in each conference and one more go down; five best indies go up

Need to figure out the geographical configuration to split the tiers (I did east-west on 14) but I'm really excited with the tier model (in that game I had two divisions in each tier, including at the top)

Would love to hear you all's ideas.

Re: CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

Has the latest patch fixed some of the issues with custom conferences? When I did an overhaul I ended up with a mess. Teams had league games the same week as the conference title game, including one team who had to play both in the Big 10 title game and at Purdue. Conference games never rotated either.

Re: CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

I think a fun What If? is "What if Joe Paterno had been able to set up his proposed Northeastern Conference in the 1980s?"

My understanding is he wanted to unite the northeast independent schools of the time in a conference.

Proposed membership was something like: Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse, Rutgers, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Temple, and Maryland.

Obviously most of those schools ended up joining the Big East when they started playing football in the early 90s. And they landed Miami, who I think sort of took Penn State's place as the top dog in the conference.

I think Louisville and Cincinnati would have eventually joined this conference as they make sense geographically.

1) Boston College
2) Cincinnati
3) Louisville
4) Maryland
5) Penn State
6) Pitt
7) Rutgers
8) Syracuse
9) Temple
10) Virginia Tech
11) West Virginia

If you really want a 12th team there's a couple options. UConn, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Notre Dame, Army, Navy.

Re: CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

If EA can’t stop the ridiculous amount of upsets I’m just going to setup 10 conferences with 12 teams each and spread the wealth between them geographically as best I can. Every conference will be as equal strength wise as possible so upsets won’t be super stupid just regular stupid.

Re: CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

Another hypothetical: what if the Southwest Conference didn't fold after they got raided by the Big Eight and the SEC?

So they lost Arkansas, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. That left them with Houston, Rice, SMU, and TCU.

So who would they add to reload? Tulane, Arkansas State, UTSA, Texas State, North Texas, UTEP, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, ULM, Louisiana. Some of those schools weren't D-IA at the time but you can say they added more schools as time went along.

I have a fun Big Ten idea: what if you added two more schools and split it into the Original Ten and the New Ten? Let's say you get Pitt and Notre Dame to join. Then the divisions are:

Original Ten: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin
New Ten: Maryland, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Washington

If I had my way the Original Ten and New Ten would both play round robin schedules so everyone plays each other. And then the two division winners would play each other at the Rose Bowl for the conference championship.

Re: CFB 25 Custom Conference Thread

Going to do the 1999 conferences but with 1 twist. I'm going to put both Big West and Wac together since there not enough conferences to do both.
