If you change a player's position outside of the offseason position changes, it will change the player's archetype to match your coach scheme. If you move a big physical WR to TE normally, they would become the vertical threat archetype, but if you do it during the season and your scheme calls for a blocking TE, your receiver's archetype will change to blocking TE and I've seen the ratings go as low as 21 OVR. Most of the time, they'll be in the 30's.
It would be interesting to test out how the low OVR translates to actual gameplay, XP, and player leveling (especially with coaching trees that offer passive XP), and then switching them back to their original position to see if they keep any gains.
As far as player number changes go, I have 3 QB's whose numbers are 21, 23, and 26. It's driving me crazy. My HB's are all single digits. If I edit a DB who wears a duplicate number, the QB just moves to another number in the 20's. I can understand the reasons for not being able to edit the numbers, but they should at least let us assign a number range for certain positions.

I would say your best bet for that even tho its tedious, if someone on defense or your kicker or punter is wearing a single digit edit them to change the HBs number and then from there if you go to change a QB number if a single digit or number in the teens is available they will probably get it then
