Re: Recruiting and Scheme Fits

Good stuff. Thanks.

This may have been brought up in other threads, but I want to give credit that for the first time, I feel like position types really matter. It seems that when I play with different players of different archetypes, I can feel the difference. This is especially evident to me on offense. I like to drop back pass. I don't want to run or scramble with my QB. So I need the throwing skills that come with a field general QB. I've used other types and it's just not the same.

Re: Recruiting and Scheme Fits

In coach mode I still haven't figured out which QB archetype is best. I thought it would be headstrong but I have two and they struggle on the road just as much as the others with inability to audible. I rotate QB until I find the one who performs. I'd like to see someone do a deep dive on QB. One thing I do is my starter is struggling I replace him. I won a national championship doing that in the championship game.

For linemen I like acceleration which usually is agile but not always. RB a combination of a power back and an elusive, power for the 3DRB slot.

Receivers catch and catch in traffic.

Linebackers need speed, tackling, play recognition and pursuit.
Safeties speed, tackling and zone.
Corners speed man coverage and change of direction.

I recruit attributes, gems and star rating more than archetype with attributes being #1.

I have 4 linemen for 4-3 and a different group for nickel.

For nickel I focus on speed, acceleration and power moves/finesse moves. Make sure the slot corner is good. Sub LB who has ability to pass defend.

What makes this scheme specifically Iowa? There’s another great thread on here about the 4-2-5 and want to use it for my new dynasty.

I would stipulate that any offense where the QB is expected to throw should be a Field General. A Platinum Field General is defined by EA as "Can identify blitzers, coverage shells, and disguised coverage pre-snap". Good throwing ability and good decision making will get this guy a Heisman.
