Now that I've got a family, the little extra time I had to practice has dwindled even more. I'm regularly getting my butt kicked on even the lower settings (let's put it this way -- other people concerns about Heisman and All American modes are about as relevant to me as a fish's problems with riding a bicycle.) But getting the chance to play enough to improve my game so that I can be competetive on the higher levels just isn't going to happen -- I'll get tired of being roadkill long before I get good, and I do have a family that I enjoy spending time with too.

I still love getting the chance to build ASU into a powerhouse and the challenge of recruiting and managing the program. Is coach mode the way to go? I've seen a few people mention it and it seems like it could be fun and still offer a challenge. I'd appreciate any feedback or ideas people have.

LOL, we are never too old! Keep fighting!

Ha, well I saw the downside of things the other day...stayed up late Thursday night to get my first game of the week in, and not only was I totally dragging all through the next day at work, I was so tired when I got home that I crashed and forgot about watching the Robert Randolph special on Austin City Limits that I had been looking forward to all week. Not only no skill and no energy, but early onset Alzheimers as well, apparently!

Robert Randolph is the man.

Re: I'm getting old and my fingers are slow. Is Coach mode the answer?

I know this thread is 14 years old but I stumbled upon it looking for something else. Man, I'm so here. I turned 41 in June but still have the gaming desire. I typically play a couple hours after my 4 year old has gone to bed. I realized years ago that my stick skills have never been on par with being able to really have fun with All-American/All-Pro or Heisman/All-Madden. I do enjoy Varsity/Pro because I took the stance that every player in the college is Varsity but not all make the All-American team and only one guy wins the Heisman. Same premise for Madden. But, in my youth I chased trying to play on the higher difficulties that the vocal majority was playing on...much to the detriment of my enjoyment of these games.

Now, I gravitate toward career modes as a created guy that way I don't ruin the authenticity by making decisions for an established college/nfl player. AND, with the advent of supersim, I can play on Varsity/Pro and not hinder the CPU offense.

It's a win for all.

I'm old enough that I need to stop and think of how old I am. I'm 45, I believe. I also have a wife, a kid, and up until COVID a 1+ hour commute each direction (now working from home) so my time is very limited.

For NCAA 14, I generally play on Varsity with certain settings tweaked. To cut down on time of games, I only play offense and supersim the rest (also because I don't like playing defense).

I also generally stick with sports games, because other games take too long to play.

A man after my own heart.

I’d actually stopped playing sports games for a while due to the time investment it required. By that I mean, you play on 7-9 minute quarters in football to get “realistic” stats spending roughly 90 mins on a game. It’ll take FOREVER to make progress in a Dynasty and these games are released annually. lol

Now with Madden’s revamped sim engine and playing super sim defense in NCAA 14 that problem is solved.

Been playing 06 lately though but since I do 5 min quarters it’s not terrible.

Yep, this. I love Dynasties but it's annoying because there's no way I'm going to play every game - certainly with baseball - but then simming I feel like I'm not part of the dynasty - that the teams record isn't really me.

Lately been playing NBA 2k14 MyPlayer and while I'm loving it, I'm also not sure what to think. I'm in Season 3 and am making the All-Star team level. Again, playing every game isn't going to happen. But 2k14 annoying only allows you to play a game or sim to the next key game. So if there's 10 games in-between the current date and the key game, you have to sim them all, you can't just sim two of them and then play the third.

The whole time thing is a reason why I actually like Minecraft (single-player) more than any other game. In a fairly short amount of time I feel like I'm doing a lot - even on survival mode.

I'm curious. You gave up on sports games for a while because of time - were you playing other types? I like playing games such as GTA, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and Fallout but quickly lose motivation because it feels like I'm only 5% through the game and not making progress.
