cuz this is what it looks like in 256x256, just doesnt look as good as it did when it was it's original size

i just went ahead and did it for you because i have never used GIMP and only PS. but in PS, right click on the window that the image is in and pick image size, then adjust the width after you make sure the little lock is selected. this will lock the ratio and adjust the height in proportion.

In GIMP, click "Image" on the top bar, then select "Scale Image...", make sure the width and height are "locked" (so they both change when you change when you change the other), then change ONLY the higher number to 256 or 128, then click "Scale". So, if the image is wider than it is tall, you will change the width to the size you want OR if its taller than it is wide, you change the height to the size you want, the other will adjust itself.
