This game is a flop, and the quality of product is to blame for the low sales numbers... Economics have some effect, but come on. People will buy video games no matter what. Its $60 for something that will last a year.
I call that marketing to the "core" audience. That's not marketing that is targeting the casual consumer. The blogs, the websites, updates on numerous gaming sites are not targeting the largest consumer base...it's targeting the smallest. The hardcore consumer is the minority consumer.

Re: Tanking Sales Numbers

Since nearly 1 in 10 Americans (14.5 million) are out of work, I would imagine buying a new version of ANY video game might be seen as a luxury not needed. Then again...we are Americans so who knows.

I suppose the best measuring stick would be Madden sales (comparatively). But keep in mind, the less money coming into EA Sports, the less they have to spend on salaries, etc...

Blogs, demo, website; all that stuff targets gamers who are already following the development of the game (read: us). The casual gamers aren't on the website relgiously or they wouldn't be considered casual gamers.

There were also 2 or 3 commercials that they ran, I saw posters in the mall, ads on the internet - especially ESPN. I dont know what else you want from them..

Re: Tanking Sales Numbers

My twin brother reads comics and loves shooters. They could market the game til the cows come home and he'd never buy it.

The audience they're losing is us with their stale gameplay engine and sorry gimmicks. We want a good football game but they're leaving money on the table by trotting out this mediocre game every year.

Just my opinions.
